hi guys, so i had again a virus report suddenly few days ago and i was acting asap and wondering whats up. i had this some months ago too, some EXE and VSTs were marked (same trojan). then i manually scanned the files and nothing was found. i had recovered an older backup (about 2 months ago) and kaspersky found the same files suddenly. this made me curious, i have then checked those on virustotal and 5 different rescue disk scanners via usb boot + also avast and malwarebytes later (before i recovered my backup) nothing found anything.... then i had a few months nothing again (i still deleted these found files precautiously and after i downloaded the zips of zynaptiq for example the old ones kaspersky said again virus so for me it was clear it is false positives otherwise it wouldnt detect these fresh downloads as virus... and i have downloaded some newer versions which were not marked suddenly).
so yeah some days ago kaspersky did the same, i kept calm this time, and again nothing found from virustotal and some other scanners. i smell that kasperksy keeps getting unreliable maybe?
if so, im considering getting rid of it, do you have any tips for another recommendation?
thanks

None. I find the scanners intrusive and slowing the machine down without really doing anything proper. I did not install Defender on my Win11 Pro.

Yep, none. I do keep an up to date Malwarebytes scanner installed for manual scanning only, for those times you want to do a quick check, but I never set it to autoload or keep it running in the background. (Managed to snatch a perpetual license for that one before it went subscribe only )

Concur. None is the correct answer for a DAW.
Even Win Defender (which I do rely on for other machines) is now starting to make me cranky and I am considering a move away from it soon.
I also do the once a week Malware Bytes manual scan just to have some piece of mind.

Here's some guy looking at the current Anti Virus software and made a tier list:

Take away from it what you will. I haven't been bothered with anything besides Windows' own stuff for years.

I do run online scanner from ESET few times a year, thats it. Never found anything else except false positives.

I lucked out with that also. I run MB in the background when on line, and do an update before I log off, then do a full scan. Have it off other wise. No other virus detection stuff, as my past experience (obsession) with them really proved to be far more trouble than it was worth. MB just works. Avast is great and light and has caught online bugs. I can't get Malwarebytes off my computer but it hangs out and scans stuff I download. I usually just go into Task Manager and put it on low priority since it's not my main software. Avast also has a free VPN baked into it that actually works.

Large software packages always create large attack surfaces. And large antivirus system are the worst because they deliberately process data that could have exploits. Furthermore, security software is usually targeted first by malware.
On Windows I run Microsoft's own basic scanner, nothing more.
