Instrument Banks on One Track

Some percussion VSTs have instrument banks where triggering one midi note plays one instrument sound, and triggering a different midi note plays a different one.

I've dealt with a couple of non-percussion-focused synth VSTs that gave ways to create similar instrument banks, which in turn let me use a single sequencer on a single track to do all my percussion.

I'm just wanting to make sure, I think the answer is "no" but I'm also ignorant--there's not just, like, a standard way to do this normally in most DAWs or with most VSTs is there? (I'm using Reaper fwiw). Be super cool if so. But I'm guessing this is specific to particular VSTs that are intentionally designed to let you do that, right?

I use reaper as well and have had the same need. I, after a long time, settled on Sintila. That might not be how it is spelled but it’s a free drum sampler vst.

We don't call them Banks. That term is already taken to mean a set of programs / patches / presets.
(short history: midi allowed for only 128 programs. This limitation was addressed by organising programs into several banks)

Since I'm talking about midi anyway, in GM (General Midi) channel 10 is reserved for percussion and each note is assigned to a percussion instrument.

But if you want certain notes to be routed to specific instruments/plugins, just make several keyboard splits. Several ways to skin that cat are discussed in this forum topic:

That keyboard split reaper mania video might be just the thing, assuming I am able to make a third track which records midi, and routes that midi signal to the other two tracks to control both of them. If so, then I can use a sequencer on that third track, to control the other two tracks. What I ultimately want is to be able to use a single sequencer window to control _all_ the percussion, when the percussion is not contained in a single vst (i.e. where each percussion sound is in a different instance of a vst (whether they're all isntances of the same vst or different vsts).

Unfortunately it doesn't work the way I hoped. The Midi Note Filter only applies itself to input from the midi controller. If I pass midi through one track onto another, and put the filter on that second track, the filter _does not_ filter anything out, and that's what I'd need. Oh well!

It does work! I just had to make sure to put the note filters BEFORE the instruments on each track.
