2) Am i dumb, or there's no way to get a snare/hi-hat from Charlatan?
1.) It comes with presets, not hundrets, but a few very good ones.
2.) Among them good snares and hihats, check folder "drums" in the preset browser.

Thanks.... turns out i'm half dumb: i've put the preset folder in the VST3 path, instead it had to stay in Roaming :)

Not sure anyone wants to use this feature, but just in case...

After reading that Charlatan 3 has undergone a major update and is being used for this One Synth Challenge, I decided to play with it for a while, and was able to find a way to microtune Charlatan 3 in equal temperaments.

Here is the link to the video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/yB8m6Clr_7o

Enjoy!

There's a growing bank. Also, 2 other banks were uploaded to the development thread.
Maybe it's time to call to everyone to upload their presets. Charlatan use folder with up to 80 presets each, no scrollbars available for more, 80+ keep there hidden but accesible by pressing the arrows.

So then correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that for 19 EDO you'd use -17.9 coarse and 15 or so fine. 19 EDO is a much more common microtonal than 14EDO I think?

But I guess this only applies if the ratios are whole numbers. If you use the Majestic Horns preset where there is 0.99 and 1.99 ratios, if you isolate the ratio which is 0.99, the coarse needs to be about -17.5 (for 19EDO). But for that preset you're supposed to use both 1.00 and 0.99 ratios for the one oscillator. And there's no way to make the one -17.9 and the other -17.5 (I think?) except making a separate instance.

And this all just applies for mix.

You can use Xform to create a separate value scale.

After playing around with this for a bit, i have some recommendations:
1) modulate the TUNE setting in the pitch section instead of modulating the ratio - this lets you tune all of the oscillators at once
2) for your test notes, use MIDI note 60 as your reference - it will always align to C4, so you can more easily tell how accurate the octave notes are.

Happy microtuning! I think i'm going to make the time to enter this month now that I know I can use this synth microtonally.

Been wanting to wrap my head around Charlatan3 for a while, and took OSC as occasion to do so. Was wondering: 'How well does it TR'? My conclusion: quite well.

Sticking to the Demoscene tradition, I refrained from using additional sound processors/plugins. Except for subtly glueing the track on the two-bus using VLADg Limiter No6. Used Bitwig for sequencing. The recording is a live jam, hence a bit lengthy :) And kind of a Detroit love-affair.

Awesome synth karrikuh! <3 DAW used: Bitwig
aka rktic. demoscener (Farbrausch, Holon, MFX, Still), sound designer, ux-dude, sth @AudioRealism, human synthesizer—not necessarily in that order.

Thanks to Charlatan I came up with this idea just now when trying it for the first time :hihi:

Good to hear from you dude. I hope you submit something for this round. Miss your trippy stuff :)
Hey man! 😁 Nice to hear from you! 🙏
I can't enter this month, too busy setting up a new laptop for music, new 16 channel soundcard and other music gear like a MIDI Vibraphone(!) 😂, MIDI wind controller etc. - Also I want to wait for Jamorigin's MIDI Guitar 3 to drop for Windows - it has improved tracking plus MPE so I can use any guitar I feel like to control synths - like my new electric fretless… 😉

I still haven't heard your winning entry nor @ELEX, right now I have @ziomau 's winning entry on repeat but I think he won recently prior to this one with another one too! 😁👍I'll catch up with all I have missed, see you all sooner or later! 😃

All the question marks are emojis from my phone :hihi:

I'm making a public soundcloud list of everyone's personal top 3 entries. That is to say, your own three favorite tracks that you entered. If anyone would want to share theirs, that'd be great. I guess it might clutter up this thread. So perhaps put it here in the OSC general discussion thread?
