Looking for good (smallish, quirky) non-Kontakt sample-based instruments

I've said goodbye to NI so it's time to start looking elsewhere for interesting sample-based instruments. I'm not looking for huge cinematic scoring collections. I'm looking for good and quirky and relatively small. Some instruments I already have or are aware of:
Spitfire Audio Originals/LABS

What are some other lesser known treats out there?

Oh, I already know about https://thecrowhillcompany.com/vaults-free-plugin/ but unfortunately I'm stuck on 10.13 for the time being and Vaults is 10.15 and up

I'd heard of it but had no idea there is all this content for it. This is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Thanks!mrcleats wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 6:16 am Have you tried Decent Sampler?

Gonna shameless self promotion a bit... https://shop.karoryfer.com/collections/all
Ethnic stuff, weird techniques on normal instruments, and sometimes weird techniques on ethnic instruments.

Nothing shameless about promoting your excellent quality samples! I have so many of your samples on my list that I plan on buying! BTW, is there a chance of making a Snowkiss Guitar Volume 2 with additional articulations that weren't in the first volume? I know that Surfkiss is "kind of a sequel", but I'd love to add to the articulations of the original Snowkiss Guitar.DSmolken wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 6:06 pm Gonna shameless self promotion a bit... https://shop.karoryfer.com/collections/all

You currently have:
Ordinary picking
picking near the bridge
hammer-ons
pull-offs
ghost notes
palm muting
palm-muted ghost notes
Harmonics including extended high range
Tremolo picking
Playing behind the bridge
Noises: pick stabs, fingering noises, scrapes, incidental noises, and playing behind the nut
Articulation examples that you could add to a volume two could include things like Sustains, Powerchords, Staccatos, Slides, String Bends, etc., etc.
C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. Company gone-can’t authorize. Limit to # of auths. Instability-ie PACE. Forced internet auths. THE HONEST ARE HASSLED, NOT THE PIRATES.

Not gonna say "no" because I've sampled the same instruments on multiple occasions (my Rubner bass five or six times by now?), but I generally leave those kinds of techniques to the "normal" developers. IIRC Orange Tree did a Jaguar guitar a few months ago, which seems to fill the "Fender offset with normal techniques" gap nicely, but I'll admit I haven't looked at it closely. Do you not like it for some reason?audiojunkie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 9:10 pm Articulation examples that you could add to a volume two could include things like Sustains, Powerchords, Staccatos, Slides, String Bends, etc., etc.

Oh, and while most of the weird stuff I like by other developers does use Kontakt (Xperimenta Project, Waverunner, Soniccouture), there are some really neat Orchestral Tools libraries in their Creative Soundpacks series that use their SINE player. The Amber detuned quartet, the library of a real-world working shaman, Arbos... Loire and Amber get on the expensive side, though. There are also SINE freebies.

I do like it! It’s just that I use Linux, and I can’t use what the “normal” developers provide, so I need the extra articulations.DSmolken wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 6:26 amNot gonna say "no" because I've sampled the same instruments on multiple occasions (my Rubner bass five or six times by now?), but I generally leave those kinds of techniques to the "normal" developers. OK, that does make sense. Will I someday get around to it... depends, probably mainly on whether I someday decide I need such samples myself.audiojunkie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:05 am I do like it!
