Swamp XT - Timbre Modulation Synthesizer can create unique sounds from clear & harsh metallic sequenced sounds to soft & wide modulated Pads. This is achieved by modulating the timbre on the oscillator level.

Swamp XT features 'Timbre-modulation': It processes each oscillator's waveform in a very unique way by changing (i.e. enriching or limiting) the harmonic spectrum making the sound fatter, wider or narrower, right down to nearly dissolving it to some kind of distorted noise, depending on the input wave.

While the original Swamp had an oscillator routing to balance its output between normal (i.e. direct signal) and timbre modulated signal, which could each be balanced to go to direct out or to filter, this has been simplified in Swamp XT: direct und timbre modulated signal can be balance mixed to one signal and the output of both oscillators can be balance mixed too. While the direct and filtered signal can be balanced at the amplifier stage of Swamp XT.

Swamp XT delivers a wide variety of sounds - including some really strange and weird.

The basic features:

  • Two digital oscillators running at a time to be selected from:
    • Two PCM wave oscillators powered by 128 different waveforms or,.
    • Two additive wavetable generators to create various waves from up to 31 partials.
  • One resonant filter (24db Lowpass).
  • Four ADSR-style envelope generators.
  • X-Torsion, one Spook effect, one Gator (Gater) effect.
  • Four LFO (BPM-synced).
  • One dedicated Pitch LFO (BPM-synced).
  • One Sample & Hold (BPM-synced).
  • One BPM-synced Delay.
  • XY Super-modulation Pad.

I thought to myself, since this is a free plugin, let me put a pad(chords)over a funk track I was. It took my song to a totally different direction I was not expecting. A very pleasing direction.

This softsynth is by far, the fullest and most spatial synth plugin I have. If you need a pad to fill out your song or doing music for film, I suggest this one. This is beyond ideal for pads and atmospheric stuff.

The skin for plugin atches the name........Swamp! It is dark and murky looking. Which is a real draw towards the softsynth.

Sound: Huge! Thick! Yet, I did not have problems with clipping or distortion of the tones. I did not need to add any FX to th sound. If you decide to, do it very sparingly. Trust me, keep the levels low on this one. The color Swamp brings to my music isincredible.

Features: I'm still learning the various oscillater syncs in Swamp. But, if I want to be lazy about it, there mark 'lazy?' just for us lazy guys. Click on lazy and swamp will select various parameters on its own.

Documentation: I really did not check for that. This thing is simply plug and play.

Presets: Again, this is simply plug and play. I could probably use every preset on this synth. It would truly deter me away from constructing my own presets. Eventually, I will attempt to make a something.

CS: Though, the do have email, I would probably use it to thank them for the plugin.

Value: I would have paid for this. This is a plugin worth buying. YET, IT IS FREE!!!

Stabilty: I have not experienced any frezing or crashing yet. Only using 512 ram.

H.G. Fortune knows what he is doing. I will seek more of his plugins.

From the depths of the deepest darkest bog, rising from the steam and rot of a thousand years of murkiness... SWAMP. This synth is the sound of hesitancy, regret, sweaty brow worry, white knuckles... and morbid fear. These are the emotions that will come to your soul when you browse through the presets of SWAMP. I see visions of System Shock, SHODAN closing in... Rusted fields of crumbling iron, with the last flesh annihilator roaming for the lost child. Never before has a synth brought so many feelings and images directly to my speakers, with such minimal effort. Folks, Trent Reznor would of killed for this synth in 1994.

But how does it work? How does this aptly named "Magic Music Machine" work it's powers? To be honest, I don't completely know. It apparently uses the "Advance Wave-Transistion" method of synthesis like it's brother the Space Transistion Synthesizer-17 (also by HG Fortune and fantastic, known as "STS-17" usually). From what I gather it runs various PCM-Waves through its dual oscillator system. In turn, each oscillator is manipulated in real time by their own independant (and sometimes shared) set of modulation and filters; such things as "S&H1Sync", "LFO1 & LFO2 sync" , and other stuff like "Modulation Timbre". There are plenty of parameters to get lost in, you can spend hours just tweaking SWAMP; always finding new sounds constantly. But if programming's not for you, there are 3 LAZY?! buttons that each control various parts of the synthesizer. Pressing them randomly will initialize new sounds in SWAMP consistently, with minimal effort. But if that's too much work even, SWAMP comes with a vast library of presets to match any horrific atmosphere you desire.

As with all of HG Fortune's synths, SWAMP is a powerhouse of innovations and unique sound. The GUI is logical, the stability grand, and the implementation unmatched. And best of all, the price is so ridiculously low that almost anyone can afford to buy the full version (I did, and I'm a cheap bastard). If you need dark atmosphere, pads, or even decrepit shreaking leads, you would be a fool to pass this synthesizer up. It's a masterpiece of bitkit by a VST genius.

Thats not a review, simply nothing. Do you think somebody care that it's to dark for you? Please don't "review" again and blame yourself to the bone.

RIP HG.
