Stability | I have been trying for some time to complete a VSTi library that spans across many instrumental genres other than the typical bass/drum/synth/keys VSTis. But I had practically given up on ever finding a realistic sounding woodwind instrument.
For the most part, finding a good woodwind emulation (whether hardware or software based) has been a feat in itself. Toy sounding patches have led us all to resorting to sample CDs of previously performed riffs. Even then we find that we can't be creative due to the fact that the sample CD is comprised of riffs and loops as opposed to one-shot high quality sounds.
---Enter the TubiLeSax---
I had a specific sound for a project that I wanted ala Candy Dufler and Prince and other RnB soulful sounds. I went on the hunt and stumbled on TubiLeSax. I listened to the demos and thought, that this is surreal. Especially for the price of $29.99 (when I bought it from DashSignature).
You really have to get the demo and listen to the .mp3 to witness for yourself. This is by far the most realistic sounding sax emulation, I have ever used.
It sits very beautifully into a project mix, and is not tainted with verberation pre-processing. You can add reverb etc to taste.
The "Performance", "Chorus", "Body" and "Reverb" parameters give you vast control over how your particular sax patch will sound.
They recently added a Baritone Sax preset which really added to the preset capability of this product.
For users that are stuck on appearance, TubiLeSax is constantly expanding their skins for you to choose from. But trust me when I say that when you use this and set it in a mix, looks won't even matter!
As far as stability. When I first used it in Sonar, I had initial crashes, but WilliamK sent out a patch immediately to address my issues. It's been 200% stable since then. BTW I still use WinME (so XP should not be a problem at all).
As mentioned above the support and value for price are primo. |

Stability | This really is an exceptional VSTi. I had been looking around for decent sax samples for ages and while there are some which are quite good, they were out of my price range. Enter Tubilesax.
Tubilesax actually sounds believable, which to my mind is quite amazing as I have never really found a believable Sax emulation before. The sound quality, and the control over the sound, is sufficient to make believable sax a possibility with midi.
Pro's - Sound Quality, ease of use, and the presets give quite a good demonstration of the instrument.
Con's - Only the GUI really which doesn't quite reflect the professionalism which went into the development of the sound - however, it is still quite useable and with the introduction of skins this will cease to be a problem. |

Stability | My son plays all the Sax's that there are... He's a jazz player and lives with me and so I'm constantly hearing Sax rehearsals and practise. [Trust me, since guitar is more my 'thang'... this is a 'mixed' blessing...hahaha]
I mention this for a few reasons. One, I'm used to hearing all the sounds on a Sax that only a human can make... you know what I mean? It's one of those instruments that varies greatly with how it's played, the mouthpiece and reeds, etc. So, don't expect ANY VSTi to give you what a real live great player can give you... BUT:
With that out of the way, this VSTi comes as close as is possible in the digital realm. You have control of the amount and sounds of the keys clacking [lots thru none]... the sound of breath, etc. along with all the other expected controls that todays VSTi's offer.
The sound is fabulous! And of course with various VST fx on top of the pure sound, many alterations are possible.
Probably the best review of this sound comes from an audio buddy of mine. A few weeks ago he was visiting and I loaded up this VSTi and played it for him... Now he is person with a way cool system [better than mine] and with hundreds of ways to produce audio. He was plain and simply blown away by the sound and the quality of the sound... he couldn't stop saying, "Wow" at every new thing we tried.
Keep in mind that this version is called Lite [even though it's pretty 'heavy' already] and that a bigger better Pro version will follow someday.
Get the demo if you don't believe me!!!!! |

Stability | If you're bored with your workstation,or GM module sax presets, you can find here a very good improvement. You can build your sax sound from a warm tenor basical version or from a brighter alto kind sample based sounds. There are many modeling parameters such as body, resonance, breath and others:It's a little complex thing to obtain what's in your mind but you can modify one of the several presets and get a warm, breathy sax ala Ben Webster(I've got one which is lush) or a "Bird like" sound which will satisfy your needs. The body and realism of this instrument covers a good range of my 5 octaves master keyboard unlike the anemic 1 octave presets of MIDI sample players, and there's an interesting range of nuances changing with the velocity, although those after touch related are too drastic for my tastes. I hope new version will introduce a few other basic sounds and polish a little the modeling controls, which are sometimes too drastic or a little confusing. This instrument worth also a better GUI. |
