I find that sometimes when I load a song it has forgotten the VST being used or the specific instrument assigned. I noticed this happens with KONTAKT but may happen in others as well.

I also noticed today that sometimes when I use history to revert, some of my VSTs are no longer recognized and I have to reassign instruments to those. On this occasion the KONTAKT VST was still assigned but there was no sound and no Edit button to the right of the Instrument in the Track browser. I clicked KONTAKT again (even though it was already selected) and now I have an Edit button but the instrument must be selected again.

I've seen this problem with KONTAKT settings being forgotten/lost when reloading a comp with the current release of 2.8 also. And the edit button vanishing and then reappearing if you click on the VST drop down. I didn't see this with the betas but I'll admit I wasn't really using VSTs very much then. It's like it doesn't remember/restore any of the VST settings.

Yes, I am chasing this bug for some time. When the Edit button disappears, the plug-in could not be loaded.
The History has to be optimized to avoid storing/restoring the VST states when not needed.

Another plugin problem with RC 2.8 standalone --

-- Won't load SampleTank 3 anymore, earlier RC versions did. I get an error message that it can't be loaded. I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8.

Bummer. ST3 was my go to plugin to use w/ RC.

Nothing has changed about VST plug-in handling since the previous version (v2.73)

Can you see the "(x64)" text in the window title? Does it happen only with ST3?

D'oh!!! I'm so sorry. User error. RC was in 32 bit, unbeknownst to me. I just used Get Info on it and saw it had been set to 32 bit. When I set it in Get Info to 64 bit and launched RC 2.8 standalone, SampleTank 3 was able to load. Attila, your post clued me in to checking this, thank you!

Cool, one less problem.

I found a serious bug with UNDO which created unneeded VST plug-in instances.
Another bug is already fixed which prohibited loading compositions sometimes.
msorrels sent me files which helped me a lot with these fixes, thank you

Am wondering if this update was released yet? If so, what's its version number?

If not, how will we know it is available? Will you post here that it has been released? Or will you send us emails? Or both?

I don't think it's been released. I've been using the following as the "change log" but I'm not sure these are the "blessed" locations, but they seem to work for me:

No, the update is not yet available. I will do my best to upload it on Sunday.
There have been quite big changes and optimizations with VST plug-in handling under the hood, I want to make sure everything works well.

The latest version is uploaded now (only a beta but I don't expect any serious bugs in it).

Fixes and improvements in v2.82b1:

Faster Undo/Redo when VST plug-ins used; VST states are not restored unnecessarily
'Collapse All' button added in the Variations browser
New setting: Store browser positions and sizes. Browsers can be opened at their last position if this is set.
Import MIDI continuous controllers from MIDI files
MIDI controllers are reset when playback is starting (Reset All Controllers + reset pan and volume)
Fixed timeline selection by Shift-dragging which selected beats beyond the end of line
Fixed 'Remove First Beat' and 'Insert One Beat Before First' in phrase editor
Bug fix: when a chord progression was dropped on the timeline sometimes the previously selected progression was used
Bug fix: Undo sometimes created unwanted VSTi plug-in instances
Bug fix: compositions containing 'Line' generator were not loaded

David, you are right about the fast food, so I will test this update for a few days...
