Hi all,
Some of you may recall that I released some amp sims, a fifteen-band ISO frequency EQ, and a room acoustics modelling VST.
A couple of weeks ago, after reading this thread here at KVR Audio:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 6&t=491177
I thought I'd throw some of my code together to see if it would work well for fuzz and distortion pedal emulation. It worked out better than I had hoped so I want to share the resulting VSTs with you folks:
BMBF and BMAFB
Here is a link to a web page that has other additional links including one to a YouTube video discussing the pedal emulators as well as the earlier VSTs (now updated to VST3-only to solve parameter store/restore problems with some hosts):
http://www.execonsultingtx.com/download ... nd-64-bit/
On KVR Audio (now VST3 only due to problems storing/restoring parameters saved with projects):
https://www.kvraudio.com/developer/exe-consulting
BMBF has the common two stages of amplification and clipping whereas BMAFB has three. BMAFB is the same as BMBF except that is has a tad more distortion for identical knob settings.
CAUTION: These plugins can produce really high gain results, so PLEASE be careful about feedback when playing live. Please do feed these into a low-gain amp such as my LG2Amp. This amp has a number of voicings so is ideal for adapting to the many sounds that these pedal emulators can produce.
There are demo songs at SoundCloud which utilize BMBF on all tracks. Instruments are all RealTracks from BIAB. All electric guitars started as DI recordings. All electric guitars went from BMBF to LG2Amp, then RoomConvp.
https://soundcloud.com/exe-consulting
Look for songs with a lime, metallic-green textured image with a bumblebee on it in the list.
The plugins are free so will always be in beta mode unless my circumstances change dramatically and I get some help for commercialization.
Please do let me know if you experience any problems with release, information, etc. as well as the plugins. This is the first release of these pedal emulations, so please bear with me!
Thanks for your attention.
Regards,
Dave Clark

On Edit: There was a bug in the VST2Wrapper code in version 3.6.6 of the VST3 SDK. This bug produced incorrect parameter mapping from VST3 to VST2. Steinberg fixed this in version 3.6.7, and I have adapted the parameter-mapping code from 3.6.7 into 3.6.6. Once I'm confident that doing this didn't create additional problems, I'll release VST2/VST3 versions. Until then, these plugins are VST3-only. There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions on my site, but only 64-bit versions here on KVR Audio.

Part of BIAB, I'm sad to report....
Edited to add: I did, however, start with the DI recorded version for the solos as well as the rhythm guitars. If you've never heard a DI recording of a solo, they sound particularly comical; the wilder the solo, the funnier the DI recording.

Thank you for letting us have your plugins for free!
That's a lot of controls for a fuzz pedal. A bit much on the CPU of this old potato I'm running, but these things are capable of a wide range of some great tones. I'm looking forward to experimenting during the daylight hours when I can really crank the volume up.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!
These blow many commercial offerings straight out the water. The CPU hit is the only downside but, man, the sound is _there_.
Thank you! Use your tube amps all the time as well.

I was planning to improve the voicing of UHG2Amp, but with these two distortion pedals and LG2Amp I've got a solution that I can use now. I'm considering marrying these two pedals and LG2Amp thereby creating an alternative to UHG2Amp in one VST.TIMT wrote:i wasn't that fond of the amps, but these 2 sound amazing
If you're into only very high gain, then of course HG2Amp isn't enough for you; however, I use it all the time for my work. I think its voicing is really good for many genres. I also use LG2Amp all the time for voice, drums, acoustic guitar and so on for some saturation and a bit of tone manipulation. MG2Amp always seems either too weak or too strong. Goldilocks might like it. If I see her, I'll be sure to ask.

Great playing as well, by the way...I feel some Roy Buchanan right there...

Glad you liked the demos. Again, the playing was done by professional musicians for BIAB. My playing, if you can call it that, is minimal stuff that is usually barely audible, in the other songs posted.

These along with the amps are such gifts. Thanks so much!

I have found with latest Reaper, latest Windows 10 that your pedal effects can't be set to saved user presets.
I can set any of the "factory" presets, but if I make my own and save them via Reaper's preset facility (the only option AFAICT), when I select it later, it's obvious Reaper makes my user setting, then the plugin restores everything to the "Factory Preset". Also, if I've set the "Warm" preset, then select a user preset, the plugin eventually resets to "Factory Preset".
Looks like this happens with your Amps as well. :-(
Didn't Chris Johnson of Airwindows have this problem with his VSTs?
Best wishes, Charles

Hi all,
Yes, I was the one who determined that renaming the plugin to .vst3 would work with Reaper 5.4 (now also 5.6).
As it so happens, I checked the behavior just last night with many hosts I have access to now and found that MOST of them do NOT save/reload the parameter settings properly when the .dll extension is used. However, all that accept VST3 do work properly as far as I have tested except for FL Studio.
So basically all these plugins should be regarded as VST3 plugins, I'm afraid, unless you use Samplitude Pro X Suite (my own favorite) or Mixbus32c or Mixbus4. Samplitude Pro X3 Suite is the only host that works properly with both versions VST2 and VST3; Mixbus32c and Mixbus4 do not host VST3 plugins.
I plan to re-release everything as VST3 so that users won't have to replace the .dll extension with .vst3.
Users who have the two DAWs I mentioned and want to use VST2 will have to replace .vst3 with .dll. Until then, please everyone: just rename the plugin(s) yourself to .vst3. I need a little time to figure out just how big a monkey wrench renaming to .vst3 is going to throw into everything.
It would be a big help to me for those of you who have any findings to report them either here on this thread or else to me at the email address you can find at:
http://www.kvraudio.com/developer/exe-consulting
for Support. It's in small print in the banner.
