"My first drone"

well, it might not be a drone technically, as some things happen that aren't very drone like, but it is noisy, and longer than 5 minutes. there's also a low-bandwidth version which weighs in at 5-odd megabytes.

As always, I (will try to ;)) appreciate any feedback/criticism. I'd particularly love to hear from some of the many drone-conneiseurs we have here at KvR.

Some fun stuff. Less drone and more electro-acoustic I'd guess. The factory atmosphere you get with the drone part is very cool. I'm just listening on earphones, and still the bass rumbled like crazy. Must be killer on speakers. Pity the poor PC speaker set. :hihi:

Don't change this one, but here's some take away notes for further such material. I think you could have easily made the part around the 4 minute mark even wilder/noisier. Maybe tear the hell out of it for 30 seconds with a waveshaper and bitcrusher or something. You could also have then made it a bit tamer when you revisit those sounds at the 7 minute mark, just by slowing down their delivery tempo.

I really like the last minute, spot on.

Cheers,
Steve

it was cool, the mudulation especially

This is really really good - very dynamic. Could maybe use a little bit more stereo field separation in the first few minutes, but that's pretty minor. Excellent.

wow thanks for all the replies :D really made my morning. The entire thing was made using less than 2 seconds worth of samples in revos feeding a load of FX in energyXT:
Image recorded for 15 about minutes whilst tweaking to get some sounds, then arranged/layered these sounds in Tracktion. I had a lot of fun doing it, and have a few other such setups that I have been collecting and will be trying out later. I could really use more hands on control than a mod and volume wheel :P

Thanks for the suggestion shamann, I was feeling somewhat the same way, but I succumbed to the "let's-get-this-out-to-other-ears" feeling :)

Indeed xt lends itself perfectly for this

I loved the rumbling intro that just seems to want to lash out but contains itself. There do seem to be the odd digital clicks which as I think to know come from some knob-twisting. No idea if that's a cpu thing or the particular plug that isn't too keen on the live-twist.

A great build up happening with good dynamics, which as others said before me is perhaps less dronish and more electrically glitchy. Do continue this exploration I'd say :)

in my opinion too busy for "drone"
however that doesnt detract from how good a track it actually is.
a very interesting composition of sounds and fx and a mix that sits nicely, which to be honest isnt as easy as a lot of people seem to think for this kind of thing 8)
in my opinion again a definite keeper but not a drone hehe
:ud:
