I must admit, my first impression was "what's changed?". I think one big change is porting to OSX which doesn't concern me.

I then loaded one of my favorite efx exported as a vst, and it looks like there was about a 30% decrease in cpu (for this one effect anyways) :D That's very cool. I haven't had time to check out too many things yet, what are other people finding for cpu use?

I made a longer post in the other thread about QFX2, but I love it. Lots of small unobtrusive changes and a few big changes that overall make it a great upgrade. Likewise, I haven't seriously road-tested it yet, but I noticed a definite CPU reduction in quite a few old FX. Some of the FX that would take 20% (I only use a 2.5GHz CPU) or more seem to barely register any more. I'm going to have a real good play today, but my first impression was that I'd be able to use an awful lot more FX with QFX2 without thinking about rendering.

I'm going to do A/B comparisons of QFX1 and 2 later I think. I'll post some of the CPU improvements when I get a chance. But first impressions were definitely good.

Hmmm...the CPU useage isn't as much improved as I first thought. It goes to show that the flashy tricks on a new toy can really skew how you see the old tricks :?

There is definitely an improvement on CPU - but it seems to be a global one, not specific for each FX. So there must have been some tidying up in the way it all knits together rather than recoding individual FX. I tried almost all of the FX that are in both QFX1 and QFX2 and ran them on the same channels - on every one there was a decrease with QFX2 of exactly one bar on my performance meter. I use an AMD 2.5 with 1G RAM. So that equates to probably 1 to 2 % reduction. Not huge - but I suppose every little bit helps.

I've not tried it out with any of my own patches, so I can't say for sure if that reduction will increase if you use more and bigger FX - but there was no difference between a simple filtered delay patch and a guitar amp - they all reduced by the same amount. Delays reduced from say 5% to 4% and the guitar amps from 18% to 17%. But, hey...that means if you use 4 FX instances you can squeeze in one more delay FX now for the same CPU useage. Can't complain about that. :)

and don't forget there's this new graphic pack which only works with V2 ;)
