Whats the dif? Proteus X vs Emulator X

Does anyone know if the Proteus X LE can import regular EMU libraries? or is it limited to the what came with it? What exactly is the "limited functionality" in this case?

it can do some......if you go to their site, in the sound central library you will see some libraries are red and some blue. it will do one and not the other.... too lazy to check it now.
but I have planet earth and mophatt and they work. so whatever colour they are in is the colour that will work.

It can import other libraries designed for the Proteus and Emulator X as far as I know. Proteus X LE doesn't run as a stand alone synth like the Proteus X (only VST.) I remember someone a while back saying something was missing from editing its presets... like you maybe couldn't do multisample editing like you can in the Proteus X or something? Take that with a huge grain of salt, because I can't remember for the life of me.

You can go to the E-mu site and dl the proX & emuX manuals. If you've got enough ram you can load the bigger sets into LE. Even without ram you can load individual patches but LE does in fact lack disk streaming.Daniel78 wrote:thanks, it looks like the bigger libraries are in blue on the website, so maybe LE lacks disk streaming as well or something....
It lacks any hint of sample or patch editing too. You can build a 16-channel multi-bank or load single patches. You can apply 2 effects per patch and 2 buss effects. It's a sample playback only version. The stuff is there but you can't get to it. I'm not even sure why they gave access to the filters because you can't route anything useful to them. It all works for sounds built in prox and emux though.
The Converter does not come with LE but works stand alone if you have EXBEngine.dll in the same place. To convert stuff to .exb the simple thing is to convert to sf2 first and then drop it on the e-mu converter. E-mu invented sf2 so naturally it does a pretty good job.
I can convert almost anything to sf2 with Extream Sample Converter... So now I have about 20GB. When you get that much it really stresses-out the libraian. So I'm choosie about what goes in there. It loads up faster if the lib is small and it's almost easier to find things using the file-tree anyway.
I went with wusikstation for a while but my 20GB emu lib is almost 200GB in wusik format and that means fractured libraries and external HDDs for laptop users. The latest upgrades w/2x2 midi interface are 38% off at sweetwater right now so I got mine and bought a XBoard too. The new USB drivers are doing pretty good so far. It's a lot more fun to play with this stuff without a e-mu sound card & drivers to give me trouble. It's pretty stable with the 0404 most of the time but I use it next to a 24/96 that never ever does anything but work right so any little problem seems bigger than it is.

Sampling has always been a bit of a chore to do because of all the housekeeping and organization involved. In Emulator X, we've invented a host of automatic tools to make sampling easier than ever before.
The chop function automatically extracts individual samples from a section of audio containing multiple notes. At the sample recording session, you set up your audio recorder and have the musician play each note separated by a short period of silence. You can make verbal cues on the tape if you wish. Later, when you're ready to input your samples, the periods of silence allows Emulator X to automatically separate the samples for processing.
Got an analog instrument with MIDI capabilities, such as a drum machine or a sampler keyboard? You can sample the entire instrument automatically using SynthSwipe.
All you need to do is: Connect your instrument's analog outputs to your computer, connect your computer's MIDI out to your instrument's MIDI in, and run SynthSwipe.

Proteus X LE does load all the libraries save for Old World Instruments and the new Classical and Piano libs I believe. All the old 32-64mb ROM emulations (like Planet Earth, Virtuoso etc.) load for certain, I've tried.
LE is pretty badly limited though. You can't even tweak polyphony settings! Basically its a rompler with very limited tweaking options. All in all I sold LE and all the soundsets because I hated the quirks and gui of PX LE.
