Urs,

If I place a module (synth, effect) in the grid and desactivate it (but it's still showing in the grid), is it taking CPU resources ?

Reason I ask is that I want to make a template with many modules and than activate only the ones I need.

Thanks,

Peter.

I wouldn't have thought so, but it's easy to verify - stick a couple of XMF's with some hefty settings in the grid, play a number of voices, and observe your DAW's CPU meter.

Now deactivate those modules, and play the same number of voices. If the CPU meter is much lower, you have your answer..! :)

(On my Mac, deactivating the XMF modules reduces the CPU requirements to the same level as not having them in there at all. Also, in many patches I do I leave in extra oscillators or filters in the grid but deactivated, so you can enable them for extra thickness or different options - it's a valid way of constructing your own templates.)

Deactivated modules don't consume any extra cpu. However, the gui needs a few nanoseconds every now and then to draw the module's name in the grid :hihi:

hey, do you think you can improve upon that performance? :-)

I hear that the module names in Pro Tools are phatter and have better summing.
