I was wondering if anyone with the older Blue/Yellow colored M-Audio 4x4 Midisport (or any other from that generation) experiences any problems under Windows XP SP2 and/or the latest sequencers? (I use Cubase 4).

I'm thinking of ebaying one (no local stores stock the new ones!) and the one thing I worry about is driver compatibility. I think this hardware was released in 2001, and that worries me. Does anyone know if this is an issue? I would greatly appreciate anyones help!

Thankyou!

You would probably be better off with something newer which has "class compliant" drivers (ie so you don't need to load a specific driver, just plug it in to the USB port).

blue and yellow or blue or yellow?
I have a blue that works fine.

I have a really old Blue/Green Midiman 4x4 Midisport. I haven't plugged in for a few years, but I've held on to it just in case the need came up. It never crossed my mind that it might not work with the current OS! I'd like to hear the answer to this as well...

The older ones work fine. And, if they have issues, it's usually because of outdated chips. If that's the case, M-Audio will send you new ones; I got mine for my 8x8 in a couple days after e-mailing their support about a code10 error I was getting from their latest drivers at the time (this was 2004 or so).

My Midisport 2x2 works flawlewssly in XP SP2. But earlier, when I tried installing it in XP Home edition, it was a big hassle. So I hope you have XP pro. I can tell you how to do it in Home, but only if it's necessary. It was a bit involved...

That looks almost exactly the same as my unit, except on mine, the green circle is much larger, with just a small part of the white circle showing. I don't see any manufacture date or version number information on mine.

I had one until about a week ago. It worked fine on everything for me. There are current drivers on the M-Audio site, and they never gave me any trouble. The silver and black MIDISport 8 x 8 on the other hand occasionally does give me an problem or two...

Often when I power it up, all the lights are blinking in unison and I need to restart it. Also, sometimes it doesn't show up in my MIDI devices, and I have to re-scan for it. It always snaps to attention afterwards, so it's never much more than an inconvenience.

Hey, I have one of those exactly! Just as blue and yellow and everything. :hihi:

I use WinXP Home SP2 and have had no problems with it what-so-ever (latest driver). It's the second computer I use this midisport with btw. I had no problems with my previous computer with WinXP Pro either fwiw.

Cool, thanks again everyone :) Looks like I'll be going for the older version as its more readily available / bit cheaper.

I have a 4x4 and a 2x2 and they both work find with XP SP2 on my machine. I actually didn't even realise they may be a difference between those and the new ones, beyond physically changing the case.
