I was wondering, can Ableton do the exact same things as the vsti shortcircuit can? Such as playing multiple samples in different keys of the piano and instead of triggering the samples, you can actually play and release.

Try asking at the Ableton forums if you're not getting any bites here.
I would imagine that Sampler or maybe Simpler could do what you are asking, but I'm not a Live user (yet...).

In Live there's 2 sample player, Simpler and Sampler. You can't do much with Simpler but with Sampler you can do what you've asked.
I'm not a user of Live so I can be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right. Also I think Sampler comes only with Live Suite.

IIRC, Claes (of Surge and Shortcircuit fame) has worked with Ableton at one point. I wonder which part of Live was his creation.
I may be wrong but I think he also stated once that Live sample handling (with Sampler/Drum Rack) was one of the reasons he stopped developing Shortcircuit, as those features had fulfilled his requirements in a sampler, and thus lost his motivation on developing Shortcircuit further, or something like that.

Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here.

Simpler comes with Live. Sampler can be bought separate, and/or it comes with Ableton Suite.
Sampler allows for multiple samples per key. Drum Racks also allows for multiple samples per key.
I don't know anything about Shortcircuit, so can't compare.

He is a part of Ableton now; I believe he did the much improved Compressor for Live 7 IIRC.poonna wrote:IIRC, Claes (of Surge and Shortcircuit fame) has worked with Ableton at one point. I wonder which part of Live was his creation.![]()
Just to clarify, Drum Racks only allows multi-sampling if using Sampler, not with the default Simpler. Simpler has multi-sampling capability for Ableton's own drum instruments (Drum Machines, Session Drums), but not for samples loaded by the user. For that you need Sampler (which is worth every penny IMO).elxicano wrote: Sampler allows for multiple samples per key. Drum Racks also allows for multiple samples per key.

He has actually left Ableton and is working with some other former Ableton programmers on a new project called Bitwig...jamester wrote:He is a part of Ableton now; I believe he did the much improved Compressor for Live 7 IIRC.poonna wrote:IIRC, Claes (of Surge and Shortcircuit fame) has worked with Ableton at one point. I'd heard of Bitwig, but I hadn't heard Claes left Ableton. He's still listed as part of the company on their "About Us" page, but it could very well be out of date...PaulSC wrote: He has actually left Ableton and is working with some other former Ableton programmers on a new project called Bitwig...

Yeah, he posted at the Vember Audio forum to the effect that he had "quit" Ableton -- in this thread
But I guess I'm dragging this thread OT...
