Recommend a good free Ghost program.

Windows 7 has built in imaging as part of the backup system. After creating the image, which you can put on DVD/hard drive - you make a system repair CD to boot from. Having your backup just on the hard drive on the same PC isnt a good idea. I used the Windows 7 image system to image my Acer Aspire one netbook onto a USB DVD writer. I used GHOST 2003 boot cd before I realised this, GHOST 2003 worked ok as well but you cant run it on Windows 7, you can only use a boot cd created on XP. I guess some utils may mess up Windows 7 unles they are written for it.
So does anyone know if Windows 7 home premium will have imaging services built in? I know that vista home premium does not.

I tried Drive Image XML on Vista Home premium and it doesn't work. There is some sort of problem with an error called 8000ffff. I can't fix this problem at the moment. I tried to use the Drive Image company's youtube tutorial to fix this problem and it still does not work. Not sure what I can do about this.

EASEUS Todo Backup -very slow,bugs
Drive Image XML - good , but BartPE ...
Macrium Reflect - slow
Seagate DiskWizard (OEM version of Acronis True Image Home 11)- very good.

I just found out about Macrium Reflect Free. Seems very nice with an intuitive and easy to use interface.
I haven't tried restoring an image yet, tho.
There are only two minor things that bother me (as an extreme minimalist that I am):
1. There's a process that runs all the time, even when not needed. (I read on the forum they plan to change that.)
2. The bootable version is only for restoring an image, not for creating. This wouldn't even be an issue if not for the 1st point.
But still worth trying it, IMO.
I'll get back when I try to restore an image.
Because to me it seemed a bit faster than Acronis True Image at creating an image, for example.

Ive just imaged a suite of 20+ Vista 64 systems with Reflect, which Ive moved to after DriveImage XML changed its institutional license terms. I only had problems on one machine, and that looks like an underlying hard drive issue. Perhaps I missed this on an earlier post. 
On my HP laptop I need to clone my C drive - Vista 64 (not HP vista but store bought Vista) to another partition and/or another HDD. My Data is not on C but on another HDD. I do both cloning to a drive and Backup to a file. I prefer to clone and restore from a bootable CD. I would like to be able to do multi boot on the same HDD and/or on anther HDD.
On an older desktop WXP system I use Ghost 2003, Partition Magic and Boot Magic never with any problems. I used Ghost from a floppy to clone and restore. Fast and Never a problem. Now with Vista 64 what will best replace the Ghost 2003, Partition magic and Boot Magic combo?
I have tried many ways over 4 months with little success. Most software do not mention if a bootable ISO can be made nor do they mention if the clone will be bootable. So please help.

Macrium Reflect FREE has been working great with Vista and Windows 7RC. It works a little different than Ghost or Acronis True Image in that you make your image while being in windows. You then make a bootable CD to restore the image. I'm not sure if you will need Partition Magic anymore because Vista/Windows 7 has pretty good partition management.

Not impressed with Vista disk partitioning program. Is w7 any better?
When I briefly had Acronis True Image it would not do any cloning only backup to a file.
BTW is W7 any better with multi booting? WXP was great even without Boot Magic.

Ghost 2003 would clone to a larger partition and even a smaller one if it will fit. I cannot recall which cloning program I tried but would only clone to an identical size partition.
So, which cloning program will clone a bootable partition to a partition which is different in size?

Just tried restoring a system image (to the same partition).
It all went well and wasn't too complicated.
It took longer than with Acronis True Image, tho. But for free, it's ok.
