I've just got my brand new i7 Daw system. It has Windows 7 64 bit OS.
Originally, I had Cubase SL1, so I installed that on the system with no problems.
I then had the SL1 to SL3 upgrade, installed that, no problems again.
Then, I tried to install my Cubase Studio 4.0 upgrade (from SL) and my system would not let me. It says on the line of ..."Installation stopped, requires XP service pack 1"
I can't get any further than that? Anyone know what I can do?

You'll most likely need to upgrade to Cubase 5. I doubt C4/C4S will ever be officially updated to be Windows 7 compliant and I don't believe the 64-bit version of C4 v4.5 was ever released beyond some kind of preview, was it not?

Doesn't Windows 7 have a compatibility troubleshooter which allows you to install a program by making it think that it's on a particular version of windows? (i.e., XP SP1, XP SP2, XP SP3, Vista SP1, etc.)?
When you installed, did you get a "Did this program install correctly?" dialog box?
If so, did you try
A) Letting it work out the compatibility options automatically?
B) Setting it to one of the XP compatibility options?

Hi folks, thanks for your replies.
I 've managed to install Cubase Studio 4 (32bit ver) after finding out new and wonderful things in the world of W7!!
Now, my next problem!
On Cubase start up, I get the message on the lines of "license cannot be found" from syncrasoft, even though my license is already on my dongle and on that note, Cubase aborts. Ive already installed the Syncrosoft software!!??

Another question though...
Do I download the 64 bit version or the 32 bit version, even though the system is 64bit, Im running Cubase in 32 bit????
Damn, this 64 bit stuff if confusing!

64bit. It's the driver for the hardware device (USB key) itself and the calls Cubase makes to it will be the same regardless of whether Cubase is 32bit or 64bit.
BTW - Good choice sticking with the 32bit Cubase. Steinberg's VSTBridge is a shocker... (if you have 64bit plugins that you want to use in 32bit Cubase and want them to utilise more than 4GB of RAM, look into jBridge ( http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/ ) as an alternative to Steinberg's own VSTBridge if you haven't already)

Guys I'm having a similar problem. I'm on Cubase Studio 4 and just upgraded to windows 7 64 bit. The cubase 64 works fine but I can't seem to upgrade it. Mine is still stuck no version 4.1.2 whereas on my Vista32 my Cubase studio 4 is upgraded to version 4.5.2 or something along those lines...how do I upgrade Cubase studio 4 on my windows 7 64bit to version 4.5.2. it won't let me!
