Hey, completely new to logic, not my choice to use it, I'm a sworn Cubase user BUT. I'm helping a friend setup a home studio and he went out without me and grabbed logic 9. I made him pick up d-cam synth squad because he's looking for some nice phat electronic sounds.

How the hell do you use it in logic? I'm told you cant use it as a VST instrument but only as an audio unit in logic, but I've never used an audio unit before and I'm confused.

so could someone please give some info for a logic moron on using the synth squad synth's in logic, or any audio unit or vst instrument for that matter?

It's really the same process except that the AU's go in the AU folder instead of the VST folder. Not much different on the user's end besides that.

Most companies offer an installer for the plugin(s) which put the plugin formats in their proper location anyway. You'll find both folders here:

HD>Library>Audio>Plug-ins

Give Logic a chance if you haven't yet, you just might like it.

Theres so AU folder in that directory, i made one and copied the strobe and amber and cypher apps from the applications folder into there.
when i go into audio units manager in logic they show up but the check off as logic but the check box next to that "nodes" won't check off.

does this mean theyre usable and if so, how to I use them like an instrument track?

If you can't check the "nodes" option that means the plugin doesn't support it. AFAIK only certain effect plugins (not instruments) are able to run under the nodes feature. The nodes feature is only if you're using other slaved Macs for extra CPU via ethernet.

Assuming you've got one of the templates loaded, click on the Mixer button at the bottom if the mixer isn't showing. Or select Mixer from the Window menu at the top, which will open the mixer in its own movable window. Select a (green) instrument track and click on the drop down box just above the I/O box (probably shows Stereo Output). If it's got an instrument loaded already, this box will be blue. From the menu that pops, you'll see a ton of Logic instruments and then, at the bottom, AU Instrument with a right-arrow next to it: you should find D-CAM in there.

I have an m-audio Firewire 1814 and im using it as MIDI. Im using my mac as the sound card. Im trying to use the D-CAM and record with it in logic but everytime i try to record it it plays back with no audio. how can i get the synth sounds from the D-CAM and record them within logic?

Go into Logic's preferences and configure your audio output.

OHHHHHH it was that easy. wow i was over thinking it.

thank you. AU's aren't hard then, and logic isn't half bad.

Logic users?
