Hi everybody,

My main concern here is to make sure that a sample that I use in my beat is tuned with all my vst instrument(other way aroud).

1-Beside the sample matter, are my vst tune the same way?? Do I need to perform any tuning between my vst when i use them together?? For example, I use Reason and Kontact sound library.

2-For the sample, I know there is somekind of tuning needed to be done. What I normally do is find some obscure 1975s melody on Youtube and sample into Sound Forge. I then send it to Recycle for chopping time. I then export it to Dr Rex and play it in my beat. I actually notice that the mix rarely match perfectly. The sample itself has probably been detuned in his travel between the coming signal(cd, tv, tape...) and Youtube. It may also be caused by the fact the composer(of the obscure melody)tuned his instrument on a unsual tone. How would you manage to make my sample match with my Vst?? Just looking for basic guideline.

Thanx

Just tell me if I didn't catch anything about tuning or that it is a good question without a only solution??

if a sample is out of tune, you correct its tuning with pitch shifters, pitch correctors, melodynes and autotunes, provided it's not played in some exotic scale with relations between the steps being different from the Western equitempered scale

Great... so when I tune a 4 bar loop sample, should I tune the whole sample or only based my tuning on one note, I then apply the pitch change to the whole sample??

And when I tune a sample with a pitch shifter, do I forward the signal to a tuner or do I adjust it only by ears??

If necessary, you could loop a note of the root or tonic and than feed it to a VST like Strobosoft and and tune the loop. Conversely, you could feed a note from a VSTi synth to Strobosoft and tune the soft synth as well.
