Recording Hardware synths

Hi All,
I recently purchased a Hardware synth made by Korg called the MS2000.
The sounds are simply awesome with some very retro 80's style synthesis.
As this is an old synth, i am simply having to record it through audio
rather then setup as a vst like you can with newer synths such as virus etc.
Im controling it through midi in's / out's (midi keyboard) and recording straight into Cubase SX3 through the ausio input on the back of my EMU1820 audio interface.
Which is fine ! BUT .....
I would realy like to audition the sound with vst effects (compression reverb delay etc) rather than record the sound dry and then have to apply the effects after, only to find out i cant get the desired effect.
Hopfully there is somebody out there who knows what i'm talking about and can point me in the right direction ?
I'd also like the apply the same technique for recording vocals
Any ideas please ?
Best,
Pete

Thanks for your response but i wish it was as easy at that !
Whenever i add effects to the audio channel it doesnt effect the sound.
I belive this is because the audio signal is comming through the soundcard but not the audio channel in cubase.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated !

btw, the Korg MS2000 is neither vintage, nor particularly old. That model is what, 6-7 years old?
I hope you didn't get screwed over by the salesman or something.
anyhow, if you enjoy it - great, have loads of fun! I used to have one and I loved it.
and to answer your question - it is all in the manual, look for references for 'direct monitoring'.

I have not used cubase for years but I remember I had a similar problem which I solved by turning of direct monitoring. You could try that. I hope this helpsghettosynth wrote:Yeah no kidding, I was starting to feel really old thinking about the MS2000 being considered vintage.galwaypark wrote:btw, the Korg MS2000 is neither vintage, nor particularly old. Didnt realy wanna open the vintage or not can of worms ! lol,
Suppose its not that old in comparison to what you'd view
as a vintage synth. But when you look at some of the new synths
in comparison now then this could be 100 years old !
Technology moving fast man.
Anyways, old or not, i still need to find an answer to my question

Hardware synths arent moving that fast. Hardware companies reuse and rebadge technology for a long time, squeezing as much as they can from designs. The MicroKorg is basically a slightly simplified version of the MS2000, and its still in production. The MicroKorg XL, released last year, is bsically just a revamped, rehoused version of that.nextinline wrote:Suppose its not that old in comparison to what you'd view

You will be able to use the channel fx on the audio input if you turn off the direct monitoring.nextinline wrote:Didnt realy wanna open the vintage or not can of worms ! lol,

And then you don't know why people go on rants with you. The OP showed no evidence of using warez and there you are, pointing fingers.yellowfever wrote:do you think he doesn't have a manual?Grain Bastard wrote:Direct monitoring - look it up in your manual.
Not the first time I see this coming up from you in a week or so, so keep your pointless deductions to yourself and answer the OP's question if you're going to post in the thread instead of trolling as usual.
@OP: Try the other posters suggestions, or go to the cubase user forums, they will very likely help you there.

Phew, happy somebody pointed that out..... I am already working hard to overcome an age crisis, don't need another reason to feel down.galwaypark wrote:btw, the Korg MS2000 is neither vintage, nor particularly old. That model is what, 6-7 years old?
