Cubase 5 pitch correct any good?

I'm not talking about VariAudio, but the Pitch correct plugin for realtime pitch correction.

Is it any good, does it work as advertised? Would it be possible to use it live?

I'm not overly keen on it. It's an extremely hard thing to do in a way that doesn't sound wierd. It works okay for, say, pitch correction within a semitone in either direction (i.e., 'correction'), but don't expect miracles trying to re-do a melody to a different key (or major to minor, etc.).

I do like the ability to have a MIDI track send to it, so you can hold down a chord and Pitch Correct will align the audio data, which might have its uses if you want to use it live.

But it has that 'wibbly' artifact thing going on on anything other than the most minor corrections.

It does what it's supposed to do, but just like using automatic mode in Auto-Tune, it's not going to be perfect.

It works, and is kind of cool to mess around with, but if you have anything major to change, I would use the Vari-Audio thingy.

Variaudio is excellent - I use it all the time but I have never had much joy with the plug in
