Apparently, you don't know how to use Live.
I'd love to judge how we each use Live, but I can't because your link is broke. Any chance I might be able to verify your expertise via a working link?
I was referring to your thread about how you were sick of Live 8 because it doesn't work on your system. I'm not interested in a pissing contest.
Actually I never stated that "Live didn't work on my system".

Is that the only thing you believe your creativity is good for? Pissing contests? I was looking/hoping to find merit, not inferiority or superiority.

To the OP,I apologize for the side tracked post. As long as you can access the Internet, get a wireless firewall switched card. You will be glade you did. Much less hassle.

So you're suggesting spending money when there's a free alternative. Why would you go out and buy a card rather than just authorize offline...hang on a minute - isn't that a benefit of offline authorization? I thought you said there were none.

DrXparaMental wrote:Holy word salad! All that and not a single benefit with respect for the alternative choice by someone with internet access on their music machine.
Actually, if you look back, the 'choice' was whether or not to have internet access on a system even if it were possible. It kind of undermines you somewhat that you seem to have forgotten that already.

See?

hmmm...me thinks you are declaring a forfeiture here because you have not provided any real reason to justify the alternative apart from that of necessity.
Im not making an assertion which needs proven; you are. You can thus 'think' all you want, but it'll be as pointless an assertion as those you've made which precede it. There is no onus on my part when your logic is as obviously flawed as it is here; you failed.

An idiot on Set Theory:

Go back and re-read my post ... I've added some links for you.

I am SICK of Live 8's disc overload, unexpected crashes, audio drop outs and the absolutely terrible forum they have.
Are you saying it does work on your system?

His profile has been deleted from the Ableton forums, but it sounds as if all forums get the same treatment from him:

and what precisely does this have to do with the topic of the OP?

It's as relevant as your derailing attempts in this thread.

Pros at what. Musicians? Or IT professionals?

I'm the latter. The idea that 'subtle corruption' happens because the computer has, at any point in its lifetime, been used for 'something else' is akin to believing in voodoo dolls and sympathetic magic.

There are some good arguments for not hooking up a system to the net, and they're all to do with optimisation of resources, and performance, not data corruption. On a modern system, where 10% of the horsepower is more than a system from 8 or 8 years ago had in total, those optimisations and performance concerns start to become irrelevant.

Only if you're rather silly in the first place. I had my current system running for a year with a live net connection, and I still had less than 30 processes running.

I blame poor management of the system. A decent backup and disk image regime would get you back from that kind of problem in an hour.

If you have that kind of money to spend instead of doing a little bit of work looking after your system, then go ahead. Its entirely unnecessary, though, so you're spending your money on solving a 'problem' that's mostly down to negligence on your part.
Ok lol thanks for your constructive critique
I was just stating what I'VE been told by yes pro musicians and sound engineers and I never said it was only for data corruption and I never hinted that it was scripture in case you didnt notice alot of my post was sarcasm ever heard of it?
and just so you know I havn't been writing tunes for about 6-7 years so yeah computing power audio wise was alot lower then which is WHY I was asking Ive only really got back into it about 7 months ago.
Also I need a laptop to play live gigs and the dells a desktop and is great for everything else and I do all my real world work on it but have had alot of problems on it with music and dont really have the time to wipe everything backup all my work and tax info for my 2 buisness's and reinstall which is what digidesign advised. As well as work I DJ and Im a single father so time is the issue and whats the point when I need a notebook to play live gigs anyway?it does everything else fine...

ps:-I do beleive in voodoo dolls and sympathetic magic :P
