Has anyone tried running Windows 7 in Windows XP mode?

Has all your software worked that you used with windows xp?

Its not an emulation - its a complete version of XP, so everything will work that you have. It wont be much use for realtime DAW work though as it runs under a virtual machine which means it will be slower than running XP directly.

However, it's possible to run many XP programs in Windows 7 by right-clicking it's shortcut and setting its compatibility to "XP SP3". I've got a few really old programs running that way. Sometimes you have to set the program to 'Run as adminstrator" too.

I believe Microsoft provides a test to check if your W7 computer can run in Xp emulation mode.

well, I hope I'm not going off topic when I ask why one would run in xp emulation mode

As mentioned, run as admin or "xp sp3" installing really works with just about everything.

This feature is primarily targeted to the corporate market. I think, after the Vista disaster this offer was put on the table form early on to make clear that MS really cares this time and using Windows 7 will not prevent corporates from running legacy applications and thereby securing past investments. It's the ultimate option in cases where all those compatibility switches won't help.

Yes, it has nothing to do with XP mode.
