I'm trying to figure out how to set-up MCompressor side-chaining in Sonar 8.5. So far no luck. Any suggestions?
Setting up Side-Chaining with the Sonitus:fx compressor that ships with Sonar 8.5 is straight forward. It's all a matter of adding the comprossor to a bus and then sending for example the bass-drum track to the side-chain of Sonitus:fx compressor. Doing the same with MCompressor does not seem to be possible?

Hi there,
the side-chain in compressor allows only filtering the original signal, you cannot send another track to it. That is possible only with MDynamics, where there is a special version with a side-chain.

You have to use MDynamicsSideChain. Then it still may be not so easy, because of the mess in plugin formats. Cakewalk plugins probably has some special interface, which makes it easy to integrate into Cakewalk, but maybe it will be the same.

Not so helpless after all. I found it as part of the MMasteringBundle and it works! Now the next question is: the MMasteringBundle is €399 and I only need the MDynamicsSideChain . Well, you can buy just MDynamics. It comes with MDynamicsLimiter and MDynamicsSideChain. Just uninstall MMasteringBundle and install MDynamics instead. And btw. tomorrow starts a quick discount 50% action.

After at close look, it does not seem to work after all. I can insert a sent, however it does not work as expected. I enable side-chain and I turn on- "use secondary input channel". When I listen to the side-chain input right channel is routed and it is rather distored. I give up for now and settle for the Sonotus:fx Compressor, which works.

Well after much research it turned out that it is a Sonar 8.5 issue and nothing to do with MDynamicsSideChain. Apparently, side-chaining works fine with Sonar 8.0 (both x64 and x86) and any other DAW I've tried for that matter.jasperhb wrote:Thanks. Let me know if you get it to work. The bug has been reported to Cakewalk and been acknowledged as such. I guess they are working of fix that will be avilable some time in the future.
Note: Sonar 8.5.3 does not fix the bug.
