so, is it sidechain or emphasis filter?

I agree :)

This is my first attempt at a GUI that I'm considering using for a VST release. I'm a little paranoid about putting it out there so I thought I'd get some feedback here first:

Just a couple of things the meter area's still just a mock up and isn't scaled correctly yet and "Clip Monster" is just a working title to fill the space. I'm still not sure what it'll be called.

So yeah, any thoughts or constructive criticism would be most welcome :)

Cheers,

Matt
looks good man :) you should be proud :)

Agreed -- significant improvements on an already-good design. Nice work!

I think that's because the colour of the segments is just a flat single tone - but I quite like it that way. However I don't think segments will give decent enough resolution for monitoring the clipping so, I'll probably have to change it anyway.

Well my first thought was a pre/post emphasis filter, but then I figured a sidechain would do pretty much the same thing, but would be more efficient and wouldn't add any ringing to the signal, so I think I'm going with a sidechain.

PaulSG, GaryG, ouroboros and grymmjack thanks for the kind words and encouragement :)

OK I've, not had much time for working on DSP, or GUI development. Here is as far as I got with this:

ImageSo, I'm thinking the main area that needs adjusting are the two large knobs in the top left? Also I need another control for oversampling options.

After that all that'll be left is the trivial matter of the actual DSP. Oh yeah, and a name for the thing :scared:

So, as before, even though I've left this for quite a while, I'd still appreciate any thoughts, criticism (hopefully constructive) or suggestions that you have on this. The improvements that have been made so far were largly driven by the great advice I received here :)

Cheers,

Matt

I like the vu meter. Could be you need more 'depth in it. Everything else looks great but the logo could be larger and a different font. Not liking the yellow and black - it looks like a bumblebee...
Hey that's a good name!

Hi Matt i think that looks great.

I'm not a Developer BTW

I was thinking that what might look good is replacing the Freq and Gain parameters with HZ/KHz and dB postioned horizontal in between the associated values instead of circular.

and maybe change the circular limit, mix and out to horizontal spaced centre to the value as you have done.

Just an idea

looking great ... nothing to add as everything pretty much mentioned already

good work :D

This looks nice! Some one mentioned the "gradient" look of the color, I like it my self. Also, this looks like a synthedit creation judging from the switches?

Good stuff all around.

 I've got more than one cat and a beagle, can you do a vst that scoops litter boxes, walks the dog and sound like The Prodigy ?? :hihi: :hihi:

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I think with the limited time I have to put into this I'll just have to keep it just about as it is now. Although the logo for sure needs some work.

xoxo you tying to be funny, or just take the piss :?

Well, my other releases were all SE. It would be easiest for me to code it for SE as I'm familiar with the SDK, but I'm also toying with the idea of going native VST using the iplug framework.

But how do the switches give it away? Are threre many other SE creations with similar ones?
