It would be cool to be able to import any picture i want into a vst and then use the grab icon function to put pictures in my energyXT layouts. I dont know if jorgen would want to make this a function or a vst programmer out there could do this. Just an idea....

obviously pictures have nothing to do with creating music. its just about experimenting with the posibilities of software. I just wanted to add some graphics to my layouts.

you mean you want to use different bitmaps for each vst (or comp) in the gui?
if so, its on my todo-list...

well one idea i had was just adding picturesto the layouts. another would be to replace the vst pic with my own. for example if you had a sampler you could replace that picture with a picture of the instrument. this is not a big deal, just a fun little idea.

a drum sampler pic could be replaced with a picture of drums. a guitar sampler could be replaced with a picture of a guitar.

if you had a sampler with just one sample of a girl singing. you could import a picture of a girl so that you remember what sample is coming from that sampler.

and a good idea it is
- you could start to use all kinds of symbols for your sounds - if you know what
symbol represents which sound it would make it much
easier to get at a glance what is what.
(especially if you use several instances of the same synth)

Thank You. I thought it was a neat idea too. Some people like topaz just dont think outside the box.jens wrote:and a good idea it is- you could start to use all kinds of symbols for your sounds - if you know what

I think he just misunderstood what you were after.
What gets me is why you didn't even bother to look at the post I pointed you to to begin with. We've discussed this at the beginning of December in Jorgen's Webmassiva forum.
On the other hand, if you weren't talking about custom bitmap icons for each module (VST, eXT comps or otherwise), then I gotta go with Topaz on this one.
I'm not sure what purpose images would have other than possibly... inspiration or an "ooooh ahhhh" factor. I suppose if you were planning to share the EXT project with others, it could be sort of act as cover art for your project. So it's not the most ludicrous idea I've ever heard.
I have asked for the ability to save skins within each EXT project. Jorgen is looking into this as well. This, in conjunction with the ability to have custom icons for each module, will get you very close to what you want I think. The only thing you won't be able to do is add pictures directly into EnergyXT as a module - but as you have already figured out on your own, you can create "image" VST's in SE.
Till then, enjoy what is.
