Mushy I updated my post, it was a report I saw on another forum a few days ago and was purely speculative (tried to trace the post but failed)...but you never know it's all speculative
Just to help you out I think it is pure speculation (sorry for the hype)...only thread I can find of late http://studionu.com/uadforums/viewtopic ... 43&start=0 (Will try and find the other post if I can remember).

Lol.
I'm going on nothing more than a gut feeling on this and I'd say very unlikely. Look how long the UAD-1 was around for and I'm sure part of the UA business plan is to keep users feeling that the DSP hardware part of the investment is actually worth it. Asking users to buy a card for a grand but next year you'll be expected to shell out for 'the new version' might be seen by many users as an ass-f**king. That type of business will hurt sales as people hold off from buying once rumours of a new one emerge and the audio market is nothing like that off say mobile phones which actively thrives on it.
With that said though, I could maybe see it working if the Sharc chips on the UAD-2 have simply ramped up in speed like CPU's do and the new UAD-3 is exactly the same as a '2' but with faster chips (ie same architecture so they don't have to support multi-platforms etc) - that might work but I see it pissing loads of users off as their investment in UAD-2's would drastically drop. Of course that depends on the pricing of the UAD-3.
A big price drop on the card would be better - quads for solo's money imo. Maybe the rumoured UAD-3 is some mega-value DSP???
Sorry I haven't got any real info for you but you got me thinking....lol.
Peace.

Rumours about uad3 pops up once in a while on forums. Pure speculations from people who have no insight in the music business. Ignore those silly rumours. If it was true uad would be the first to drop the news.

I don't think there will be a UAD-3 any time soon but perhaps an octo or "mega!" Uad-2.
The original Uad-2 lineup was underpowered already at release so I wouldn't be surprised if they simply added more dsp chips. After all the new architecture is very flexible.
Cheers!

So if one has a UAD Solo on their radar, would you recommend they hold-off for a while??

I've only got a Solo and an old Mackie version UAD-1 and I'm perfectly happy with them. However I use the 'older' plugins which might not be your intension as the newer ones often use more of the power available. I find that running say 5 Moog Filters (SE), a couple of Cooper Time Delays, an EMT-140 Plate verb, a couple of Pultec Pro's, about 4 1176LN's & LA2A's and about a dozen cambridge eq's, AND still having 95% of an I5 CPU to go at is usually enough for me in my humble home studio. The cards are nowhere near maxed usually and having a decent amount of native power available completely blows my mind if I'm honest.Mushy Mushy wrote:So if one has a UAD Solo on their radar, would you recommend they hold-off for a while??
But then again I'm old and was happy with just my Amiga years ago, so nowadays I feel extremely lucky with what is available to me gear-wise.

the More UAD plugins out there the better,
but less cards of course so we can spend our money on other stuff
