Opinions about IK Multimedia CSR Classik Studio Reverb please

Some great flavors available now depending on what you want.

Aether is good all around.
Lex is good but expensive.
Relab is excellent at doing the old 480L sound.
Lots of good IR options.

Everything I just mentioned beats CSR these days IMO.

What about this statement?
I do not want to spent money into the "past".

I have CSR but I tend to use other reverbs more often. My favorite is Aether and Breeze. I also demoed Relab's lx480, which was absolutely stunning. It's now on my shortlist! It's amazing IMO. If I had the choice between CSR and lx480, I'd choose the latter.

I would sell CSR if I could, but I'm stuck with it as I got it as part of one of those promotions and it is non transferable.

I may have misspoken about the price point. I could have sworn that I saw CSR down to $99, but a quick Google shows that it is generally a $199 purchase, give or take. Still worth it at that price, IMHO.

I was unaware of WARP's involvement. Those startup screens all fly by pretty quickly, and, even if they didn't I probably wouldn't pay much attention.

I do not want to spent money into the "past".

It's called 'Classik' Studio Reverb. Not 'Cutting Edge' Studio Reverb. It was designed with original studio hardware setups in mind. And, IMHO, it absolutely nails that sound.

CSR has been updated a few times since its release, mostly for efficiency and performance upgrades. And, I understand that a 64 bit may be in the works, as with the rest of IK's line. But the sound itself should remain.

As far as other options, most are vastly different in type. IR's are a completely different sonic ball of wax, as they are generally a static representation of the space. Others, like lex, are much pricier. Frankly, for me, the only other high end verb I've considered is Aether, which, I understand does things a bit differently. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't get in the group buy for that one.

But at the end of the day, I'm not doing genres that require much more than traditional, quality reverb. And so I have CSR.

It is my go to too! Very fond of it. Tend to prefer it over my Breverb, Blueverb and EpicVerb.

I have it. The consensus, from people who know what they are doing, when it's been mentioned a few times on here, is to learn what each dial does and tweak it to suit. Obviously, that applies to any plug-in but some plug-ins need a bit more thought as you know and this one benefits from a bit of thought.

I agree. Sometimes it looks like the cell-phone-trend: your 6-months-old handy still works super, but you change it for one which has ten new features you'll never use. The Lexicon 480L was released in 1986 and it still sounds awesome. Like the LA2A, 1176, Pultec and so on.

I'm aware sometimes it's necessary to upgrade, perhaps just useful because you found something more appealing, less CPU hungry, etc...but a good sound is good sound.

Ahh. Ok. So I'm not imagining things. This would be the way to go if you're buying, I guess. Separately, each of these plugs would go for $199 USD or so. That makes it a no-brainer at that pricepoint.

@ b-pole and BERFAB: do you have precise info about the 64-bit? I asked directly on the IK forum about SVX and CSR, Brian confirmed AT and T-Racks 64-bit but never got back on those.

I actually went back to 32-bit in order to use that stuff and my amp-sims.

I'd rather put that towards a quality and slightly less affordable verb like Softube's TSAR 1 . Valhalla is about to release what will surely be a great Hall/Room verb for $50 maybe as soon as monday . I have all the Tracks /CSR stuff . Personally , I find I never want to use it .

But if you have the money, and you like to get a reverb that is very good, I would get the LX480 lite for $199,= for the money, I don't think you can get a better reverb. The quality is AMAZING! Only downside is that it only has the random hall algorithm, the full version will have more algorithms to choose from. (but it's possible to upgrade from Lite to Full, so you can always "upgrade".)

As I wrote in my first post, with reverbs is really a matter of taste. I'd never buy the "quality and slightly less affordable verb", I don't find it can do something I can't achieve with what I already have and it is CPU intensive, IIRC - although I'll test and buy Valhalla (I could do that just for the name )

It also meant, between the lines, that CSR is not a quality 'verb. I couldn't agree LESS. You should try them and see yourself... I fully tested
both CSR and Breverb before committing.
