A large number of really entertaining tracks. Voting was a very tough decision. We needed at last seven points.

Our votes are:

Vivolator - Shut the door: 5 Points
Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork: 4 Points
elipsis1 - alphanumeric: 3 Points
Happy Frog - Surfing With Ballerinas: 2 Points
IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep: 1 Points

Reviews:

Yeager - Previou5ly
Pros: Groovy tune, nice sounds and delay.
Cons: We think it is a bit too long.

CapDan - And now for something completely different
Pros: The title, simple but infectious groove, great bass, the goofy riff in the end.
Cons: As mentioned in the submission thread only a connection of ideas. You were on our shortlist. Hope you get your points from someone else.

HemmickReef - FreedomForAlpha
Pros: Beautiful melodies and build up in middle section.
Cons: Lacks a real climax.

V'ger - Soma
Pros: Heavy, rasping sounds, thundering bass, great breakbeats.
Cons: None. You too were on our shortlist. Hope you get your points from someone else.

Vivolator - The Investigation
Pros: The title says it all, really building.
Cons: Not quite our taste.

edteneyck - Alpha23
Pros: Strong lead synth in the second half
Cons: Weak ending.

Doc Jon - Last Voyage Of The Thetis
Pros: Floating piano, very, very strong hihat rhythm.
Cons: Noises in the middle section are a bit annoying. Overall no much progression.

Doc Jon - Dirty Weekend In Blackpool
Pros: Strong sequences in the first part, piano in the last third is so laid back.
Cons: Could have lasted longer in the end. Where is the repeat button?

elipsis1 - alphanumeric
Pros: Amazing sounds and automations throughout, vocals!!! Why didn't we find them? RuediRena are jealous.
Cons: None.

Vivolator - Shut the door
Pros: Driving riff at the beginning leads to laid back intermission leads to joyous hymn leads to so many good sounds and ideas. This is way better than your other track. Reminds us of some Isaac Hayes instrumental tracks.
Cons: Maybe a little more reverb on some melodies.

Tattiemannie - Alphabetcha
Pros: Nice and lively sequenced melodies throughout.
Cons: Bass and drums are a bit static but not really heavy. Maybe they lack the finishing touch. Too long.

IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep
Pros: The "fretless bass", courageous but appropriate use of metal bleeps, epic pads.
Cons: Could have gone on some more time.

Happy Frog - Surfing With Ballerinas
Pros: Reminds us of Surfing on Sinewaves by Aphex Twin
Cons: We couldn't find any.

Gorgorgathgorgorgor - Fantasie for Steel Pans
Pros: Beautiful steeldrums.
Cons: Somewhat - hmmm - spastic drums, if you pardon the expression.

Happy Frog - Run Replicas

Pros: Gains some life towards the end.
Cons: Sorry, not our cup of coffee. Bass drum needs EQ.

Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork
Pros: Fat bass, great drums, gorgeous melody, very professional breakdown in the middle.
Cons: None. We could have listened for hours.

ParadoxUn - Disco
Pros: Dry, in the face, deep filtering, compression, buildup.
Cons: Compression (although at first is sound very impressive, there is no real development posible towards the end). This will work in the club, but we are at home. Sorry.

RuediRena - Free Kindergarten Alpha

No pros and cons on our own track. Surrounded by so much good music it definitely sounds Kindergarten. Maybe as a next step we can develop to Krautgarten.

See you on Tyrell competition. This is such fun!

I've taken advantage of the very boring job of painting my studio's walls to listen to this OSC's tracks, so here are my votes, while the first coat of the fourth wall dries :)

IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep: 5
Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis: 4
V'ger - Soma: 3
Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork: 2
Vivolator - The Investigation: 1

IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep: This just seemed to really grab me, a lot of emotion in there.

Doc Jon - Last Voyage of the Thetis: Very well done, the audio you got from FREE Alpha really lined up with the whole underwater theme. Very cool.

V'ger - Soma: Loved the vibe, a lot of synth variation on the lead lines.

Ancient - Tokyo Clock: Very laid back, but in a good groovin way. At 1:34 this sound really added a lot to the track. Very interesting right in there.

Vivolator - Wow, this could have come off the miami vice CD, and that is a compliment! Great sounds on that soundtrack. Nice use of dynamics, good sound choices.

I can't think of any tracks that I didn't like, this voting was all about making hard decisions. I hope you all do well :)

Ancient's 'Tokyo Clockwork' - 5
(the only track made me want to rewind continuously, hypnotizing)
IrionDaRonin's 'Falling Asleep' - 4
Vivolator's 'Shut The Door' - 3
elipsis1's 'alphanumeric' - 2
ParadoxUn's 'Disco' - 1

sorry his tunes didn't make my list, but kudos to Doc Jon for capturing the 80's feel

Yeager's 'Previou5ly' has dope string machine pads

if i chose some over the others equally potent is only because their harmony and melodies spoke to me more

What a difficult task this has proved to be with so many excellent pieces, I genuinely enjoyed each one

Thanks to all the positive comments on my pieces, and the points!
Mac of BIOnighT :wheee: very kind of you sir!
and a point from Peter of Linplug :hail: that'll do me just fine!
and a big thanks to everyone else who has been so kind

My points go as follows:

Vivolator - Shut the door: 5 points
They say that initial impressions can be misleading but the moment I heard this I knew it would be my favourite, and it's just got better with each listen. I see you have a background in sound design and boy does it show!! Brilliant selection of sounds and so well put together, it's almost as if you've been using a completely different instrument to the rest of us - if this is an advert for your current Alpha soundset then sign me up!

Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork: 4 points
So good. Hypnotic and wonderful interweaving sounds with clever percussive blippy sequences. And that section at the end with the guitar and electric piano was simply perfect

V'ger - Soma: 3 points
Epic opening, loved the whole of this with such an impressively heavy feel to the track and a huge variety of different sounds contained within, special mention to the pulsing bass

Elipsis1 - Alphanumeric: 2 points
It was the rhythm throughout this track that really made it stand out for me and I thought the formant style patches suited the feel just great

IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep: 1 point
Another epic piece, really chilled, absolutely beautiful pad sounds, now I feel so relaxed!

Sorry I couldn't give points to more people, there were so many others that deserved them. Special mention to edteneyck and Tattiemannie for some excellent retro style sounds, and RuediRena for such a hilarious tune - sounds like the intro to some brilliant off the wall alternative composition - I want to hear it!

5 pts: IrionDaRonin - Falling Asleep
  • Lovely moody track that really works with nice sounds and good production.
4 pts: Ancient - Tokyo Clockwork
  • Same as above, very hard to separate the two.
3 pts: Vivolator - The Investigation
  • Despite being on the short side, this is really a cool piece with great sounds. Reminds me of the soundtrack of Grand Canyon by James Newton Howard. Amazing how few instruments and a relatively simple arrangement can work so well.
2 pts: elipsis1 - alphanumeric
  • A good showcase of Alpha's sound with some clever and interesting details.
1 pt: Yeager - Previou5ly
  • Nice melody with good sounds and production.
Overall great entries and Alpha really impresses with good sound and range.
