Hey everybody. If you're into progressive metal, I offer up my band's debut EP for your earholes. Our band is called On Impact and the total running length of the 9 track EP is just under 37 minutes (6 full songs and 3 interludes) Our stuff is a little weird at times but it's all in good fun. The album is available for free download to pass on the good vibes. Pay it forward by telling your friends about us and putting out free music yourself. Hope you enjoy.

jaco815,
Thanks for the download! While I don't much care for the production aesthetics of this flavor of the prog genre, the writing is excellent and the playing is top notch. I mean this as a very high compliment: with different production, I'd probably love this. ---- "Time makes fools of us all. Our only comfort is that greater shall come after us." Thanks for the compliments, but I was wondering what you might mean by different production? This is my first album leading production and I would like to know what kind of things you like to hear. Maybe some examples of bands or something? Our tones are based on a number of aspects of modern metal that were particularly close to our hearts. The guitar rhythm tone is based on Periphery, but the cleans and leads are whatever we were feeling at the time. The bass guitar tone and playing style is based on Mudvayne with lots of slap and and cut with the occasional distorted or chorused section. The keys are all over the place but Gladiator was used on every song on this album as far as I can remember. The drums were designed to appeal to a number of things I love about different drum tones. I have these toms that really sing and cut through the mix really well, and the snare is fat and crisp. I actually used three different snares. One is a singing maple type 14x7 on Frenchy and EXP1. I had a fat 14x8 ballad toned snare on Meltdown, ROFLcopter, and Trees. The last was a 14x5.5 that was on Psybeam, Cake Soaked In Rage, and Penguins Are Always Dressed Well which had more crack to it. The bass drum I wanted to be punchy and clicky, which it is, but I regret that it is lacking some low end frequencies on the final mix. So that about sums up our inspiration for the mix. ---- "On this show your voice will be heard in the form of my voice" - Stephen Colbert |

It's clear that great care went into what you did.
It's just a matter of taste. My personal preference is for rounder drums sounds and different guitar tones. That's in no way a reflection on what you've done here. You've done some impressive work. I think it may be that I come to progressive music from Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, Rush etc and less from the "metal" side of the equation. No right, no wrong. The essential thing is that the music is well-crafted, melodic and interesting. ---- "Time makes fools of us all. Our only comfort is that greater shall come after us." Thanks! I love dinosaurs and wanted something different than what all of the other prog bands are doing. They make things too serious sometimes IMO. Thank you so much. Originality was a top priority. We wrote whatever we were feeling at the time and pieced the album together bit-by-bit. Do us a favor and spread the word! ---- "On this show your voice will be heard in the form of my voice" - Stephen Colbert |
