I know what you're going for and I'd say don't back off on the synth, per se... just create a little space is all. I find those types of doubling effects work well when the sounds aren't competing... for example, a guitar lead melody with a juicy doubled synth lead somewhere off center and just slightly lower. Nice effect. Sometimes going really wide with the supporting line produces a really dramatic effect, but not so good for long stretches... can sound disjointed. I guess it's the same idea as those old Gerry Mulligan arrangements, right?Gregjazz wrote:Yeah, you're right. I was going for a kind of Brecker Brothers fusion layering, which aims to blend the instruments in unison--though for the sake of showing off the flute in the melody (it gets its "Anchorman" time in the solo), I should have backed off the synth sound doubling the melody.kbaccki wrote: BTW, on Sandra's syndrome, a little more separation between the lead sound and flute might be nice... maybe pan the lead sound 15deg left or right and leave the flute centered... The ombined effect as-is is a sort of funky synthesized flute sound... my .02.

Is that a reference to this or am I unaware of some hip jazz phrase referring to a big solo?:Gregjazz wrote:...it gets its "it gets its "Anchorman" time in the solo...
If it is indeed a reference to that scene,

I was going to post that very famous scene, but I couldn't find a higher quality version--just this one, where somebody apparently pointed their camera at the TV screen.

You can even hear the laughter of the person who recorded this during the scene where Ron Burgundy slides his head under a bathroom stall.Gregjazz wrote:I was going to post that very famous scene, but I couldn't find a higher quality version--just this one, where somebody apparently pointed their camera at the TV screen.

Frankly, these demos are awesome - especially the Jethro 12 which leaves more room to appreciate the flute itself. I'm buying as soon as I get back from travels next week!
OTOH, on listening to the demos I'm reminded of that tired old joke about the guy who broke all the fingers on his left hand in an accident: "Doctor, will I be able to play the violin?" "Certainly you will." "Thank you, Doctor! I never could play before."
Finally - where's that Leo Kotke 12 string acoustic? ;-D

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Okay, beyond loving the sound of the flute, the presets, the great scripting, and the fact that it's so easy to get a realistic performance out of this library, I LOVE the fact that you can choose different mics!!! That is one cool idea. I wish every KONTAKT library I had let me do this -- guitar, bass, drums, everything. That would be great.
Seriously, this is a library where I first said to myself, "Noooo, do another guitar, bass or other instrument I'm going to use a lot." But this library is blowing me away. Wow. No pun intended. But that would be a really, really awful pun, had I meant it to be a pun.

Just purchased this and I have one complaint already. The webserver is too slow!
Was having a hard time choosing between Passion Flute or Retro Flute. I only found a couple of audio examples for Retro Flute and no YT video review but it did sound really good from what I heard. An SOS review mentioned something about zipper noise, when crossfading between non-vibrato and vibrato.
I chose Passion Flute as it is a newer release and more adjustable due to the different mics.
But I could have flipped a coin and still be satisfied with any choice as they are both very professional libraries.

Sorry about that! Usually the Amazon servers are quite fast, but depending on your location and the status of the servers sometimes it can be slow. If it's a problem, I can re-upload the library to an alternate server for you--just send me an email or PM here, and I'll do my best to sort it out for you!meldavid wrote:Just purchased this and I have one complaint already. Nah, the speed was fine. I was just expressing my impatience at obtaining this sample library. :p I was getting 240 KB/s average.
Right now I am downloading Abbey Road 60s Drummer, a 6 GB download at 30 KB/s, and not split up into smaller files.

As far as download speeds, it's always possible that your ISP could be throttling your bandwidth. Unfortunately, it's pretty common. In the U.S., Cox and Comcast have publicly stated that they use bandwidth throttling to limit users' bandwidth by up to 99%.

We just released a FREE update for Passion Flute, which has a bunch of improvements--in fact, the internal engine has been completely rewritten for more responsive playability and better compatibility with wind/breath controllers.
We just sent out an email to Passion Flute users, so you can download the update now and start working with this new version! If you haven't received the email, be sure to check your spam folder in case it ended up there--or just send me an email and I'll sort it out for you.
Enjoy!
