Thanks for the mention Shaul, I've been so busy today putting out the release, I haven't posted an official announcement yet.

I saw SunVox running a few days ago on Android, looks like a really cool app. It'll please the tracker fans and it looks quite powerful.

Like you, I'm glad to see more apps coming over to the "Forgotten Music Platform"

Hi singlecell, how are you man?
I am really amazed by the update you made in version 2!! it's amazing man.
Amazing progress , I can't wait to start writing some cool tracks on caustic.

Btw, I have two questions, if you have a little time I would be happy to know the answers...

1. Any chance you will make a module the can load .Rex files?
2. Did you hear about pulseaudio? I heard it's a great workaround for linux to use better and faster algorithms, so the latency is much lower, like in the 20ms area or so....... is this anything that can help a great developer like you?

Other than that, the software is amazing, and ofcourse you can add whatever you want :) I respect everything that will happen.

Have a great day man, and thanks again for being a part of the android music community, I really appreciate it, and if you every need anything from me, to help the Caustic cause, just let me know. (I am a professional music composer and producer and i am also savvy in building synth presets). :hihi:

No problems, here's some answers:

1 - Not likely. The .REX format is proprietary to Propellerheads. They have an SDK, but for Windows/Mac only.

2 - Yes, I saw that post. It's exactly what need to be done to achieve low-latency on Android, unfortunately it involves a new sound driver, therefore a new kernel and ROM, not something within everyone's reach but certainly interesting for those who are willing to experiment a little. It'll be a while before apps can use it. He did mention a possible drop-in replacement for AudioFlinger, in which case it would just work with Caustic, nothing to do on my end. But just to put things in perspective, he had to rebuild the OS and it only works on one phone, but still, it's exciting research.

Anyway, I need some sleep. It's been a loooong day.

Yes! Caustic 2 is working fine so far on my Android phone. Excellent update!
Looking forward to buying the Kindle Fire version when it comes out.
Thank you thank you :)

Edit: Piano roll notes are missing (graphically) from my old songs, but they still sound right. Rebooted the phone, re-saved the songs, still no visible piano roll notes. I'm on an HTC Incredible running Android 2.3.4.

Other than that, so far, thank you for-

the new drum mixer
the way the drum selection arrows light when the sample is triggered
drum tuning

pulse width and envelope modulation knobs

the pcm synth is a new machine! a very cool little sample player

mute and solo on each synth as well as in the mixer
copy, paste, and clear buttons
the note velocity fader

The sequencers are fun to use, nice workflow improvement there. Is there a way to scroll left and right? I keep accidentally dropping notes in. Edit: Aha, no need to scroll!

I still can't believe what a fun app this is.
I haven't tried yet, but I assume we can load our own samples by copying them to the appropriate folders?

Thanks again!

They're probably just hidden away in the piano roll view (which is not the default anymore). To go to piano roll in the sequencer, hit the top left button, it toggles between patterns and piano roll. Or have a look at the new overview video in my youtube channel, there's a brief explanation there, or read the new user manual! (finally)

Yup, you could actually do this right from the first version, but it really wasn't obvious. It should be more obvious now, but again, have a look at the vids and manual for a better explanation than anything I could write here.

Just purchased Caustic 2 - great fun :-)

I am shocked. Caustic 2 is fantastic and giving me the best response of any audio app on Android. It tells me the latency is 92ms, but I can press keys and hear (pretty much) instant results.

Congratulations!

Also, the new features are KILLER!

Great app and totally worth the money.

Yes, they were just hidden away. Now I've read the manual (all is clear) and I will watch the video today. Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Pretty OT and I suspect it's related to my hw/sw but... I have a an hp touchpad running cm7 and using loopstack I get a really good amount (100%?) of bleed between tracks (and yes, I'm using headphones so no speaker output). I'm guessing it's just a cm7 thing but then I don't really know andriod all that well so I'm wondering if there is a setting or something somewhere that might affect this. Anyone know? By the way really cool apps by this dev (and cheap!). Thx

I'm guessing it's a hw/sw bug. I know some devices can't record while playing back (no duplex on the soundcard), so maybe this is another manifestation of that. I might be because the device assumes that when there's a headphone jack plugged in, there's an external mic as well (have you got a set of android phone headphones somewhere you could test, the ones with 4 connectors on the plug). It could also just be an oversight when they ported CM7. I'm not familiar with the touchpad, apart from following the 100$ sale/CM7 efforts.

Have tried Caustic2 on it? Does it run ?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I kind of figured that was going to be the case. The dev's working on cm7 (9 now, ICS) are doing an incredible job but have their hands full for sure. Maybe this'll be worked out in the future. Don't have a 4 connector headphone/mic cable or I'd give it a try.

Caustic2 demo seems to run okay. Might have a little more latency than the OP mentioned as it's just a hair beyond usable for realtime input. Again, very possible it's just the device. I didn't really spend a whole lot of time with it yet though. Got sidetracked by loopstack and my guitar. Even with the track-bleed loopstack is lot of fun! If you have any other touchpad questions or want anything in particular tested let me know. Happy to help though it's a pretty deadend market (the hp/tp)I suspect. Still was a good deal though even without the music making capabilities so can't complain. Thanks again...

Can Caustic 2 load samples into the drum machine? 24bit samples? Could someone please point me to a features list?

Thanks...

It supports loading your own samples, but no support for 24bit samples yet, that's something on the list for v2.1.

There's a manual included with the app (free to try), but I'll post an online version soon.
