Hi all,

I discovered Cantabile a few months back and I've been playing/testing it on and off since, and it's been growing on me believe it or not. I am more and more amused by making "live" performances (for myself so far), and this product gets a lot of things right. It's been a pleasure to work with, easy and straight forward, and I really like the way midi is implemented. I just need more hardware midi controllers...

I'm considering purchasing the Solo version at least, but have a few questions first:

1- Shit! I don't see any recent Cantabile activity or release (since 2010 it looks like), so it makes me wonder what the future of this product is... Does anyone know anything?

2- Mad Is it possible to add some effect plug-ins on the main audio output? I haven't been able to figure this out. Thinking of using a Limiter, EQ maybe, and Analog/Tape Saturation plug-ins...

3- Surprised I recently acquired a Novation Remote Zero (first gen). Is there any Automap mapping files available for Cantabile? (I'm still learning this Automap stuff BTW).

4- Laughing Can you synchronize 2 Cantabile instances on 2 computers via midi, and would you need the Performer version for this? Or can Cantabile be a slave via midi?

Cheers!

I don't know, but I'm also very curious. I just paid for the performer version... I had used the demo on a gig I played a year ago, suddenly that gig came up again and, since I already had it set up for the gig, just went ahead and bought it. I like it, but I do have some comments I'd like to send... I'd also hope that the scratch I sent was partially going towards a new shiny version. I'm very curious what the status is of Cantabile.

MIDI functionality is a real strong point with Cantabile, and I feel certain what you describe here is possible. It seems you wouldn't need Performer for the most basic functionality, but you would probably want it in the end. Setting up MIDI Controller Assignments and Sub Sessions (which are available in Performer only) are extremely useful in a live situation.

1. It's true that development seems to be in hibernation...
Rolling Eyes

2. Of course yes, it's just you have to do this... Create a second rack for your master efx and route all other racks to that ("send to") instead of output.

3. As far as I know automap maps to plugin parameters transparently. In other words automap intends to control plugins without anything to configure in the vst host program or daw. Cantabile is no VST by itself - so there isn't any automap I guess. To control sliders, buttons and many other things in Cantabile works the traditional way - via midi assignment. If you are a software developer there is another option - telnet automation.

4. I am not sure what you mean with "synchronize two instances"... if you think of midi clock this should be poassible. If I remember right Cantabile Performer offers external clock sync. However, midi clock sync can be a bastard... Embarassed Please refer to Topten Software website for details.
