Hi all. I have a USB Mic I want to use for some recording. I have an old M-audio 2496 installed and it won't allow me to use the USB mic in audio applications. ASIO4all does have the capacity to allow a USB Mic to be used as one of its devices. At the moment I have the factory ASIO drivers for the 2496 installed. Would you recommend trying out the A4A drivers? Will it interfere with the 2496 drivers? How is A4A these days? Is there a difference in sound quality compared to stock drivers for the M-audio card? Are they stable?

i believe that ASIO4all will act like you have a third interface with ASIO selectable.. i don't think that it ever fully replaces a card's ASIO driver..

Agreed. The problem is that a USB Mic does not come with ASIO drivers and so it will need to be processed through the primary sound driver in this case. That means switching driver each time it needs to be used. A4A allows a USB Mic to be used. I wouldn't even consider it otherwise.

go ahead and try - even if something went wrong you would simply uninstall ASIO4ALL and reinstall your native ASIO..

USB mics and ASIO dont mix. I know its not what you want to hear but USB mics are for making podcasts and simple recording without another interface present. Even if you do manage to get it going, there will be latency.

oh - i don't think that sound quality would be effected by drivers in this case.. that will still be up to the physical DAC quality..

Yes, I know that. The thought of recording some sounds into a Yeti (which happens to be a top shelf quality USB Mic) and processed into Audiomulch means that latency is not an issue.

Having said that, I get the picture.

A4A does allow a USB Mic to be used, so latency may not be an issue in this case. I'll try it and see.

I don't think it will interfere with the current sound drivers either. Looks like it only gets loaded when needed by the application.
