I always wanted to make some really somooth vocals. And maybe the entire mixing too.
Here's how I have been developing it, for testing purposes:
First, I put a spectral expander on the main track. That can be done win Cockos Fir or Melda Spectral Dynamics.
Then, I go back and compress at the same (inverted) ratio the material, but with fewer bands (or a smoothed filter in the case of Melda) than used in the first step.
I believe this effect is working with the masking effect, Human brain related. The adjacent frequencies of the main signal are reduced down, thus giving extra room for perception of the main signal.
Have any of you guys tried this yet?
