That's really sad... she was a great singer who wasted her talent on a lot of vacuous material.

I'll remember her for her stunning voice.

... and now for the inevitable "final recordings", released "with approval" by the family. "Whitney would have wanted it" and the usual BS. She probably won't be able to rest in peace for quite a while.

This is pretty unsettling added to my recent nostalgia kick...Robert Anton Wilson, George Carlin, Michael Jackson, now Whitney Houston...feeling old... :(
Fark! I just discovered Nate Dogg died about a year ago too...reality crumbling...

Damn, I was just listening to "I Will Always Love You" as part of some course work yesterday.

Never followed her, but she was supremely talented. RIP Whitney.

She certainly had helluva voice. RIP.

I'm so sad, that the soul-diva passed away :(

So much talent but so much problems with drugs and stuff.

RIP Whitney

I was there at the start. I'm here for the end. It was a helluva ride. Thank you for the music. May you finally find some peace.
Heaven must have one helluva choir......

She had an amazing voice.

Here is something that someone of you do understand and others may not. A song does not own the singer. We all watch tv shows and movies. And rarely do we fool ourselves into believing that the actor is the same person as the character he/she portrays. And yet we don't only expect that we demand it from music performers. Is that really rational?

Still not a lot to go on but the picture is starting to emerge. AFAIK, she died in the bathtub. She was "partying heavily" in the Beverly Hills Hotel bar on Friday night, to the point of being noticed by staff because she and her friends were so loud. A number of different prescription pill bottles were found in her room, but no illegal drugs have been reported.

Time of death hasn't been reported by a coroner yet, just time of pronouncement of death (just before 4 pm Saturday). It's looking possible that she drowned very late Friday night, maybe after taking some kind of sedative while she was still pretty intoxicated. Her bodyguard found her, but if he knew she went to bed super late, he may have been letting her sleep in. Shades of Jim Morrison here, though at least she had 20 years on him.

Pretty sad if that was what it was after she made it through much more serious drug binges in the past. Could have happened to anyone---at least anyone who is careless enough to mix drink and pills and then take a bath. :(

I feel the same about most of her songs, but on the other hand, this is probably my favourite ballad of all time:

(her first released recording... and yeah, I know it's a cover)
