hi all, have really enjoyed listening to this months submissions and, as usual, don't have nearly enough points to give away. I've included the notes I made while listening. Hope they make sense.

1. Yeager - So Do I - 5pts
Love this right from the start. Impossible to listen to without wanting to dance.

2. DzAH - Drops of Soft Pick - 4pts
Lovely gentle sounds in the intro, clever use of delays. Continues with some nice melodies. A beautiful, mellow piece, very relaxing to listen to.

3. bzur - pointillistic - 3pts
Nice gently building intro, with soft beeps, before breaking into a lovely melodic riff

4. Irion Da Ronin - A child's hope - 2pts
Lovely delays, gentle melody, with some creative use of Kairatune sounds. Second half very strong.

5. Doc Jon - Kaira's Nightmare2 - 1pt
Nice bass and drum groove throughout with some quite harsh sounding leads. Infectious groove as always. Great lead soloing.

Honourable Mentions

manvanmars - Kaira electra
Nice atmosphere at the start, good use of delays to generate a groove. Good drums when they come in. Nice melody, although perhaps lacking in fresh ideas in the second half. First half really feels like it is slowly building to some kind of climax. Percussion sounds exactly like someone playing pingpong

Photonic - Kaira is calling
Creative phone noises at start, some great sounds although the main lead in the first half is a little annoying. Really like the second half on this one, with a very nice motif. Very close contender.

kraftraum - Rotation 2
Some extreme panning effects over the top of a basic dance beat. Melody that emerges at 1:00 is nice. Clever percussive rotation effect works well with headphones on.

GorGorgathgorgorgor - Maselvhallingen
Another quirky tune, prefer this to his first. Nice lead sounds and delays. Good drum groove. Clever ending.

qauoar - Oceans
Chilled out, with huge reverb on percussion. Lovely flute-like lead sound. Really nice transition into new groove half way through. Short but nice.

distorque - Neon Street
Nice quirky melody with a video-game feel to it. Lots of fun. Enjoyed this. Second half not quite so strong.

I was realy corious how the songs will sound after I heared that Kairatune will be the OSC, becuase of its very special sound. And I was realy surprised that I could hear so many soft sounds in the tracks. A lot of you could tame the beast!

5 points: Irion Da Ronin - A Childs Hope
At least after 58seconds of this song I knew which song will be my winner. This beautiful pad sound, together with all the nice moldies and wide open atmo is a full joy to listen!

4 points: Yeager - So Do I
Very complex composition. Good driving rythm.

3 points: bzur - pointillistic
Very relaxing. Beside the good lead sounds I like the way you play the bass.

2 points: markheath - The Adventures of Captain Trillian
Cool 80s synth-pop feeling with nice melodies. I like the middle part with the James Bond Theme.

1 point: kraftraum - Rotation 2
I like the arpegi in the "berlin shool"-style. Nice dark atmo and quite analog feeling for this synth.

Votes are comming, but first, I wanna thank KVR Audio and admins for this challenge. Its my first one, and it has been fun to participate. I also wanna give a lot of thanks to everyone who gave me commentens, feedbacks, criticism, points etc. in this thread and on soundcloud, I really appreciate it. Also a special thanks to Bjulin for giving me my first points ever in OSC.. made me jump for joy lol (and btw Bjulin, thanks for "Peace" too. A very, very nice track! One of my all time OSC favorites for sure)

regarding the votes:
It was hard for me to decide who to give top score. It was very close between these three tracks:

After a lot of thought I ended up with this:

5 points to: Distorque - N. Street
Instant like. Find the track very creative and unique. Nice rhythmics, sounds and melodies..and its just VERY enjoyable/fun to listen to.

4 points to: Irion Da Ronin - A Child's Hope
A really nice track. Some extremely good and impressive sounds, and imo the best track this month regarding sound quality. Only thing I found a bit lacking was the uniqueness of the tune, harmonics etc. Still, quite impressive and skillfully made.

3 points to: bzur - pointillistic
A really good track this also. Nice and interesting melodies and good overall sound. In some ways might be argued to be the very best track this month imo. The track is so nicely put together (I mean, how the parts fit together and the overall flow).. felt almost perfect in some parts. Feels a bit strange to give this track only 3 points.

The next two was also really good imo:

Very nice and likeable track. Good sounds. Relaxing and energic at the same time. Listening to it over and over again, and will do so even more. Like the tune soooo much..

1 point to: Doc Jon - Kaira's Nightmare
Very catchy and fun track. Nice and cool melodies, lead, solos etc.


There where many other tracks that where well made, had good sound, nice tune etc., but these five are my favorites. If some other want feedback, just tell me (here or PM), and I will gladly give you.

Lastly, pardon my english. Im from Norway so its not excellent.

Just copying my comment on the SoundCloud group: You know what this reminds me of? Some old Mongo Santamaria LP I've got! Very strange to create exactly the same vibe as they did using basic percussion instruments like conga and empty bottles. I'm stunned it is REALLY identical! And I like it.

DzAH - Drops of Soft Pick
Very calm mood. You use some nice sounds and panning, but there is no development to hear, too little dynamics for my taste.

JJBiener - The Heat
The same as with DzAH's track. Not my cup of tea. Sorry.

Distorque - Neon Street
This one definitely gets the price for most saturated, body shaking sub bass. Add some funky riffing ideas and you get a quite entertaining song. Man, how my desk was shaking!

Qauoar - Oceans
In a sense similar to DzAH's and JJBiener's track, but enter a bit of dirty, gritty sound and somehow this works much better for me. Though I share Irion's opinion, that you used a bit too much reverb on the percussion.

bzur - pointillistic
This track kept its door closed for me for a long time, but suddenly it works. Sounds, development, suspense - it all is present. Well done once more, bzur.

zi90 - Cerebral Pares
A showcase for Kairatune's more ugly side that a lot of contestants avoided. Ugly patches, FX and bass. I like it. Composition - well, what composition, this is about sound.

markheath - The Adventures of Captain Trillian
A very good one. Great arps, nice build in a very unobtrusive way. I really enjoy listening to this track. Not too short, not too long.

Gorgorgathgorgorgor - Måselvhallingen
THE most unique track this month, gorgor. Once again. Forget about technical aspects. They are all there. This is World music. Like, like, like!

Yeager - So Do I
Yeager! This track marches on and on. Sound, rhythm, composition, mood: a typical Yeager thing, monolithic, all of a piece, well rounded.

Kraftraum - Rotation 2
Tasteful use of sounds, calm mood but never boring, very nice use of percussion to propel the track. 'Welcome to rotation! Please don't laugh!' (Sorry, I couldn't resist to mention this one. Does anyone remember?)

Irion Da Ronin - A Child's Hope
My man Irion. Quality wherever you look. Very touching!

Doc Jon - Kaira's Nightmare
The Doc did it again! Typical groove with that extra nasty Kaira twist. AAAEEERGHYYIIIIIGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!!! (Sorry for being loud, but I felt like it )

Photonic - Kaira is calling
Like the phone, like that bony Clavinet groove at 0:10, love the sax patch you, especially the vibrato on long notes. love the composition. Very well done.

InterSlot Call - I hate this synth
An ode to filtering. I am not quite shure if this one idea carries a whole track though I like some of the patches a lot.

manvanmars - kaira electra
This track fascinates and hypnotices me from beginning to end - ping pong included.

cjohs - March of the Estranged
Strong sub bass, quality sounds, slowly changing pads. Obviously a lot of work went into the development of this. I like it.

Alphuris - Wind-up
Strong intro, the kick seems to be a bit weak, the arpeggio beginning at 1:20 is irresistable, the break is a bit long but I like the wind-up to the reprise. Well done.

Gorgorgathgorgorgor - Krummavísur
This somehow seems to be a preliminary study for Måselvhallingen. I like some of the 'hollow' patches a lot.

thanks for the excellent tracks!

I'd like to ask all of the contesters to share the presets you've used in the competition. All you'd need to do would be to load your project one last time and go through every instance of Kairatune and save the preset as FXP (using the synth GUI), zip the files and send the zip to me. I would be happy to compile some banks and upload them to KVR banks and patches. Of course, if you think you have a full bank, you're more than welcome to compile a bank yourself.

There were tons of great sounds on the tracks! It would be absolutely great to have them available. If you don't wish to make your presets available to the public, please consider making them available at least for me. User contributed presets are such an invaluable resource for ideas when designing improvements to the plugin.

Once again, you have produced really impressive tracks and sounds. I'll be voting at some time later.

The same as with DzAH's track. Not my cup of tea. Sorry.

I have to admit it was not my best work. I had a lot of ideas that never made it into the piece due to persistent problems with my computer. That computer is off in the land of Warranty Repairs, and I am back on my old machine. I tried to finish off the entry before I sent off the computer, but by doing so, the piece wasn't at all what I had conceived.

So I appreciate you and everyone else listening to it, but I will be very surprised if it garners any points. There are fine songs submitted this month that are far more deserving.
