Even if you don't get your subforum, you can always just use this thread or maybe think up a catchy name for the initiative and include this name in all relevant thread titles to make people recognize it better.

I'm very interested in this and salute you for throwing it out there for discussion. I thought I was the only one interested in the piracy issue. Perhaps a Skype session or group IM chat or something along those lines could be arranged to get this off the ground. This kind of thing has been done elsewhere so I don't think there's a need to reinvent the wheel, as it were.

Not to put a damper on a fine thought; however, this is in violation of Steinberg's policy of educational product.ttoz wrote:(EDITED for brevity)
i have seen people selling cubase 6 education second hand, full version, for under $200!!
just be a little patient!
cheers,
Theo
See Steinberg's educational offers page here:
http://www.steinberg.net/en/education/e ... ducts.html
It seems you can order direct from Steinberg and download from a link they will provide when you comply with their policy. Not sure how much is costs though since I am not eligible for their offer.
Just a thought.
Happy Musicals!

EDIT: Discounts of up to 50% are available through their offer for educational product. Pretty hefty savings and looks to bring into the realm of affordability for Dream. Good luck and Happy Musiking!

So, what is happening with this? Has this been started? I browsed through the threads but there's 28, so I did not read everything. Sorry..

A copy of Computer Music gives you everything you need to make music if your broke. Then if your good with that, go earn some money playing shows or something and save up to get a better setup.
Nirvana started out dirt broke, and eventually became a mainstream band with money. So with that said if you have a laptop or computer, then absorb as much freeware and start making music now.

I'll say it again.
If you want to help, spend your time and money on helping people who need your help the most:
Sick, starving, homeless, abused.
Poor musicians can use great sounding freeware VSTi plugins and save their own 60 bucks for REAPER hobbyist license.

I just read about it. I haven't the time to read the whole thread, but I find it a good idea to help poor musicians...
OTOH, there are loads of good cheap and even free plugins and sales and no-brainers. If I had a (financial) problem, then it's to buy a new - better - computer, not more plugins...but with permanent bouncing of the tracks it'll be possible to make good music with a bad computer, too.
Regarding crackers, I think they wanna feel themselves huge, they wanna be more powerful against others. It's not that they have not enough money to buy software. It's kind of an evil (sport) discipline succeeding in cracking new protection systems. And they're gaining the more credit in the cracker society the more software they crack.
So if you give them money, they will be happy, but it doesn't stop them to crack products, unfortunately. If you give an alcoholic money, it won't stop him to buy alcohol. You have to help him to change his attitude.

Thank you for updating us..TheoM wrote: Also, i hate to say it, but because of this very topic i did some heavy investigation of the warez scene, (no not downloading you dicks LOL), to see people's attitude. some of the stuff i read mortified me, and i mean, maybe 90% of them. I just have zero idea how i could weed out the good 10% to help. These guys, the way they talk (not the hackers, the ungrateful kiddies!) made my skin crawl. they'd have no intention to buy anything even if they could afford it. it really opened my eyes, that little exercise.
I agree, that's why I always say, people buy your software because they want to support your company. This is not to say that everyone is a thief, but if someone wants a piece of software, they can get very easily for free. So software developers who have paying customers should bend over backwards to make them happy.
