Hey ZenPunkHippy,
So far only plastics are made with rapid prototyping,
but who nows in the future.
The dimensions are costly for larger too.
Cheers
If laser sintering could work for metals,
'twould be sweet
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Yeah, I know it's limited to special plastics and similar now ... but this recent story about a replacement jaw mentions titanium powder:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16907104

Prohibitively expensive no doubt, but it's coming ... and there was this video of a wrench being fabricated six months back:

... anyway, sorry for the off-topic but it is kinda related to "file-sharing" ... just a bit more advanced than MP3's :)

Peace,
Andy.

IMO people in the business making money. People thinking a bit this time that all guys are out of business, nobody has sales and there is no future. The numbers showing a bit the opposite. There is a growing market since 2005 (Afaik this case study started with the first numbers in 2005). Not bad at all?

The graph already hides many key points between music in 2010 and music in 1995, such as no distribution method, no format, and no account for performances.

Wow, what an incredible bunch of crap. You talk about "Lies, damn lies and statistics." There isn't one meaningful statistic on that list. Let's look at some...

Feature Films Produced Worldwide. The drop in prices for digital HD cameras has allowed filmmakers from around the world create feature films where in 1995 they would have been priced out of the market. How many of them were professionally shot? How many even made back their production budget? How many even received a public showing?

Music Track Catalogued. They are comparing 2010 to 1949. Hello? Same questions as above.

Book Revenues. Revenues went up 5.6% between 2008 and 2010. Well, if you take out the books by Stieg Larsson and JK Rowling, revenues actually went down for the industry as a whole. That is not how I define a healthy industry. Also, note that they quote gross revenue, not net income.

World Wide Movie Box Office. Revenue went up because prices went up. Prices went up because of the conversion to digital/3D/IMAX. Prices went up because costs went up. What happened to profitability? How many films actually made a profit?

Number of Music Transactions. There was a major shift from purchasing CDs to purchasing singles songs online. Singles are far less profitable. Also, far more independent musicians are selling 10-20 tracks on CD Baby and other sites which also boosts transactions without really improving the state of the industry.

Artists Share of Revenue. As with the previous stat, many more independent artists are selling tracks on CD Baby, et al. The vast majority are not making a living at it, but since they do get a larger share of the 99 cents than major label artists, it looks like artists as a whole are doing better.

With a little creativity, you can statistically prove almost anything. Statistics aren't reality.
This space has been unintentionally left blank.

Reality is that the industry is going to continue on a downward slope. There will be a cottage industry but no real industry .....

Short the majors!!!

The problem with this argument is that it points to an obvious problem within the movie industry. That is, they are apparently incapable of projecting budgets and spending accordingly.

I project my income next year will be $5.00

I purchase a $4.00 pencil to help me work

Actual income is $4.50

The obvious conclusion from this is that profits are down. I will now blame someone else for my failure to budget accordingly.

Does not compute, sorry.

Peace,
Andy.
