The thing that I miss the most is a "Range" knob on the Gate, that determines how far down the Gate will push the volume when it closes.

Especially with natural instruments, such as "real" drums/guitars/basses, there are certain amounts of "room" or "ring" that shouldn't always be cut out completely but only made a lot quieter.

A gated drumkit, where each recorded drum track is gated separately to "clean out" mic bleed from the other drums, will sound MUCH more natural if not just all the tracks get gated at 100% and some Reverb is added later, but if the single tracks all have a quiet remainder of the bleed, because the Gate doesn't cut out ALL the signal when it closes, but it only drops the volume -say- 25dB.

You should really implement that, not many competing Gates have that feature. ;)

Thanks again, J.!

EAReverb v1.1.8 and the ANALOG87 series v1.1.2 has just been sent to the team.
If everything goes well, I should release the updates soon :-)

All the best,
Philippe

do our keyfiles stiff work or do we need to download new ones?

Post

It's a great idea actually.
It may be difficult to include it in CS-STRIP87 (mostly because of the interface) but it would definitely be a nice addon for SD-GATE87.

You do not need to re-authorize the plugins on each update.
Just launch the installers and follow the installation procedure. Fast and easy ;-)

Please tell me if I'm wrong:
What you would like to get is a parameter that lets you define the reduction applied by the gate. Instead of pushing down the volume to -inf dB, it would reduce it by 'x' dB (from -inf to 0 dB, 0 having absolutly no effect on the sound).

Am I right?

i think that is what he means. if you do this though i would like to keep the -inf db but it should be a nice effects in-case there is to much noise for a track to be gated or for effect

i have been using the updated analog87 suite for a little bit now and have to say i am loving the changes thanks

Many thanks J.!

It's great to have such a positive feedback about these plugins.
I will work on the "Range" option for SD-GATE87 ASAP.
Then it may be the right time to send the whole series for some reviews in the paper press ;-)

PS: Thanks again to Perry Staltic and Andreas at buenasideas.de for this 8 pages review! I still have to update the English translation so it includes the new rating ("very good" since v1.1.1) :D
