Hi,

I've tried varying all the settings on Meringue, but it always emits a "popping" sound when the light signal hits the right and left edges of the display. Is this normal?

Post

Doesn't sound normal. Any chance of a recording so I can hear exactly what you mean?

What are your system and DAW details?

Here is a short clip of a kick drum loop with Meringue: http://soundcloud.com/user9250659/test1

I've tried it on Ableton Live 8.2.2 and AudioMulch.

My system details:

ASUS K501 series laptop; Pentium Dual-Core CPU 2.20GHz; 2G Ram

Thanks.

Thanks - but could you enable downloads on that track so I can pull it down and actually examine the waveform?

Post

Hi, I've enabled it now.

Still not seeing the download option, sorry. Would it be easier to email it to me?

Post

Sorry, it should be downloadable now.

Thanks, that worked.

I think this is working as expected. Meringue applies a very short crossfade at the loop start and end to get a smooth loop, but in your particular case where you're using a bass drum, the period of the audio signal is actually longer than the crossfade so you're hearing the slight artefact you describe.

To put it another way, you just happen to have chosen the worst possible sound to put through Meringue :)

A subtle lowpass filter on the output would probably help this case.

Ok, thanks a lot for your help.
