Looking for a good string sound for Zebra

Hi,

For an ongoing project I'm looking for a good string patch for Zebra. I have some of them, but none of them really fits. I also have some good sampled strings, but they don't fit either. Since I'm not a talented sound designer maybe some of you can help or do know where to find good string sounds. The sonic range could be somewhere in between violin and cello, but not below (no double bass).

Thanks.

There's a string patch "Pad_Snow Ensemble" within the free instrument selection of my Winter sound set, maybe that's what you're looking for? Smile

For reference, what don't you like about the "HS Almost Strings+" and "HS Lord of the Strings" presets?[/i]

@3ee: thanks, I'll check that.

@Rimwolf: I forgot the "Lord of the Strings" and the other patch you mentioned, thanks for that. Since the slightly strange categorization of Howards' patches I just didn't find them.

Now, after I checked them I found those string patches quite unrealistic. They are too 'synth-like'.

A couple with less synth-y character from Howard are - HS Dirty Resins 2 in the latest stuff in Local, and (Two point Five) HS E Rigby's 129th.

mcnoone's free Vision set has 'Klazzical Strings' that, it's synth-character sound but the XYs can be used subtly to fit with other stuff. Not that there aren't similar patches around but this one always strikes me as very nice.

Just wondering, are you trying to do more of a pad-like part or something with more articulation? Ensemble or single instrument?

Look for the free bank "Zebra Food" - there are some outstanding strings in that

This is the exact one I was going to post. Best synth-string sound I've heard in years.

(Also wishing for better patch organization in next major update of Zebra.)

I need a string accompaniment for a synthpop tune I'm currently working on. The main melody is played by a sampled flute, so the strings can be a bit synthetic, but not too much since this would turn the whole track into a '70s synth style music. Actually I'd like to layer sampled strings with Zebra strings to get an organic vibe to the sound, while the song itself will keep its synthesized character. It shouldn't be a solo violin because I need a solid texture but it shouldn't also be too epic.

Here's 4 string things I did in Zebra.

Might be something there.
The first one uses the modwheel to change the tone.
No fx on that one and it works great with velocity.
It's included in the demo set of my Soliton set.
