Anyone tried this on the mix buss with the range turned all the way down and adjusting the spectrum and THD amounts to taste, then using input and output to find the right drive setting?

Instant virtual console magic. 8)

I left the transformer off with the one mix I tried (piano, electric piano, pad, drums) because I felt it treated the piano a bit more smoothly. I had the spectrum set to 0.5 on this mix but I imagine results will be different with different mixes.

Try it last or right before your limiter if you use one.

Thanks, Bootsie, this one is something truly special!

I made this discovery earlier with some drums. Even letting in a couple db compression to tighten things up too. Takes the flab out of muddy kicks, and adds a lot of thwack to snares with some nice accentuated room ambience.

Scale the range all the way back and adjust the input and THD to taste. A separate plugin that did just this would be awesome. Maybe it will make its way in the form of a tape/console plug next, as he said he has 2 more plugin coming that use his new intermod distortion THD algo thingy.

Yea, I don't know about the compressor as mix comp because I haven't tested it that much in that role, and I have those bases covered with so many other plug-ins already, plus I don't even necessarily always like 2-buss compression. So your comment about parting out the drive/saturation/transformer circuit makes a lot of sense, but with the range knob all the way counter-clockwise it doesn't seem to matter (though it might be less processing intensive to have the comp out completely, not sure).

This strategy Bootsie is pursuing with respect to saturation/analog modelling seems to really be paying off. I hope he continues developing it further (tubes, did I hear a vote for tubes? :o  :) )

This comp really shines on vocals, drums and bass - at least these are the sources I tested it on so far. Adds detail and fullness with a nice color. I especially like how it smoothens and lifts vocals: real LA style compression. And it can do much more, so versatile. Love it!

So far I had only three plugins that make my kicks warm and the same time softly rounded, they are Nomad Factory STUDIO CHANEL SC-226, Nomad Factory Magnetic and Sknote Roundtone.

Now ThrillSeekerLA is fantastic addition to those type of plugins.

Working very well here on lead and bass synth, too. Works wonders with Poly-Ana. 8)

These plugins are fantastic! The gui's are incredibly realistic and probably the best of any plugins I've come across. Most importantly they sound great. At this stage in plugin development I don't think it's necessary to buy expensive plugins any longer to get a professional sound.

True, and one good reason to have the saturation section available as a separate plug-in. That would make it more efficient to set it up differently for many (or all) tracks.

Yes. Works extremely well on some material. And as a slow compressor, it works nicely smooth. Does something nice. Its nice. Did I say its Nice...

But they are TIED together

Why do you need a separate plugin if you can shut the compression mechanism altogether ?... (or am I missing something ?)

Why the rolleyes?

Whether or not they're tied together in this version, there's no reason they have to be if he creates another plug-in. Drive based saturation and compression are two different things. You get saturation in an analog console with no compressor whatsoever in the signal chain.

What's more, dialing back the range completely doesn't necessarily turn off the compressor algorithm. Bootsy hasn't told us that yet. It may just make it much less sensitive.

This is all relevant because if you want saturation on 20+ tracks but want to use either a different compressor or no compressor on most of those tracks, and the range knob isn't capable of completely defeating the compressor processing, the CPU hit is going to add up, particularly since these are made with SynthMaker.

Sorry if I sounded a little harsh.

Well, it's up to him to decide if it's feasible, right ?

I was under the impression that the resulting sound (whatever it is... I don't
like to yell "console magic !" as I have NEVER heard a "console magic" (and I
bet neither do a LOT of people who claim they "hear" magic)

You are right. haven't seen any remarks about that.

OK :)

Well, my impression is that we WILL see some sort of saturation plugin.
