Wondering what is available. I have http://www.kvraudio.com/product/dsk_ind ... _dsk_music but it doesn't really do it for me.

The sampler SwarPlug is using seems ancient, I am planning to go 64 bit sometime soon so that doesn't look like a reasonable investment. Sitar Nation requires the full Kontakt which I don't own. It is $260 also, at that price I would expect top of the line modern plugin. Besides that is out of my price range anyhow. If there is something cheap or free that is best especially if it is just Indian instruments. The DSK plugin has crashed Reaper several times so that is really why I'm not happy with that, it crashed right after posting this here. Otherwise with some EQ and effects it sounds good enough. Maybe I should look for a soundfont.

I haven't used it, but this might be worth a look:

That sounds pretty good to me. SF2 format as well so that is easy. I'll consider it as I look around. Thanks!

+1 syntar. Well it's not the best but not bad either.

If you are going for inexpensive, +1 for the manytone sitar.. very fun to play.

Unfortunately I get no sound out of Syntar in Reaper. I'll try reinstalling but feeling there is some incompatibility. It is quite an old plugin.

MOTU's Ethno Instrument has some pretty good sitars and tamburas, but most of the time I reach for the instruments that are in the Ethnic card of my Roland SonicCell (ROMpler) There's something I just love about those Roland patches...

Oh it would be nice to be able to afford that :) I did ask for 'best' though. I heard a demo of Omnisphere and they had a sitar layered with a bass guitar and it was heavenly. I also was looking at http://www.kvraudio.com/product/world_i ... y_garritan which seems like a good value if I can find it on sale, not just sitars. I guess I should qualify my request that it should be 64 bit compatible (samples that can be played in a 64 bit player qualify.)

There is a Sampletank world sound set on sale for $10 at www.esoundz.com

The giant enchilada IK deal is $150, full Garratin, probably a few sitar klones
in SonicSynth and Sampletank.

Huh, glad you told us that. I own Omnisphere and didn't even know there was a sitar. :)
