The mod wheel is definitely linked to a control it is not dead.
The automation clip gets created but it is always for a previous control that I last tweeked. There is no recognition of the mod wheel.

Cannot automate mod wheel for DUNE in FL studio

I cannot create automation clip for the DUNE mod wheel in fl studio. It seems to have worked occasionally but mostly does not work. There seems to be no difficulty to automate any other control on the DUNE synth except the one I really want. What is going on here is it a problem with DUNE or fl studio?
