The pitch-shifting in Cubase doesn't cut it for me, often leaves artefacts.

I'm only really looking to use it on drum hits and loops. Something free or inexpensive would be ideal. So not looking for Melodyne level products for this.

Cheers.

I love IL Gross Beat. Steep learning curve, but when you get the hang of it, it's very cool. I don't know if you can use it outside FL Studio (but I think you can)

You'd love Pitchwheel. You pay some money and it's worth it.

Which version are you using? It was vastly improved in Cubase 6. If you plan to upgrade maybe you won't need anything else.

Save up your wonga and dish out for melodyne,it's timestretching and pitch shifting is near enough artefact free, plus you have a lot of control of the formants of shifted sounds.

Actually, having recently upgraded to 6.5, I've found that the pitch-shifting is much better. Cheers!

It was improved in 6.0, I don't think it has changed in 6.5
