Hello!

Anybody know how to recreate these two types of kicks?

I've tried my best in Operator, tried my best layering various types of drums, various ways of parallel processing, as well as all sorts of analog outboard gear but I can't get anywhere close.

All I got so far is:

Thanks in advance!

you'll find what you're searching for.

Thanks, but I want to learn how to do it myself.

Filtered how? I've tried all sorts of filters.

These kicks are good, but not THAT good. Both of them are filterd using some kind of low pass filter, but you find them fantastic because they fit to context. They do not seem that sexy to me. Fat low + filtred highs + side chain on music.

I'm sorry you didn't like them.

Also, I'm afraid the magic I'm seeking in these kicks go beyond simple lowpass filtering or sidechaining.

The musical context here is irrelevant.

I like them. But i'm no more on the "wow what a fuc**** fantastic kick/snare/hh etc" way of thinking because i truely believe the musical context is always relevant. Very Happy "fat", "warm", "big" do not mean nothing to me without a context...

Hmm, as said - attack is severely filtered.
I'd cut one out. The cleanest you can find. And then check the pitch-bend happening and the volume env. I'd try to get this right before and not worry to much about the attack part (because there really is none, at least no click).

Err.. did some cleanup on kick one. That should make it easier to study.

Damn, that is pretty spot on man! Nicely done!

Could you show us how you did it? Like how to synthesize one from scratch (for dummies) - I'd very much like to try recreate it in Operator.

Many thanks!

I didn't do that myself. i just cleaned it up.
Supposed to make it easier for you do redo.
Try and get the pitch bend portion right. That should be the key.

The Kick like that you can make by recording the rhythm of your heart on the microphone and the subsequent processing in the sampler. Smile Wink

I am thinking it might just be an 808 kick with a comp on it with zero attack.
The pitch bend that creates the punch is very short but tapers of over a length of time. The main and mostly important pitchbend happens in the first 3 or so cycles - then it is allready below 50 Hz. I need to do some more work on this but it is pretty simple (what isn't Smile)

I am listening with laptop speakers...

But it sounds like typical 808 kick. Meaning sinewave with pitch envelope. In this case it sounds like the envelope isn't too hyped.

I think the attack is not set to instant either.

Your link does not work BTW.

If you can isolate the kick you could use a spectrum analyzer to determinate the starting and ending pitch of the sine wave as well as the pitch envelope time and I do think it would come easy after that.
