Hi,

Really need some help with Geist before I buy,

1. After I slice a loop can I drag the sliced pattern (as midi) into my host? (most important)

2. Can Geist import Battery or Kontakt files?

3. My principle need for Geist is the loop slicing, tried others but nothing seems to do it as elegantly (principally from seeing videos) as Geist

Any help please?

Cheers
This isn't what you think.

To answer your third question:

There's a demo you can download.

A quick look at the manual shows that you can drag patterns out as MIDI onto your daw. A few searches in the manual and a google search shows no mention of being able to import anything outside of Guru patches.

Yes, this works in Logic and I assume other hosts. Click n drag the pattern icon (above pads), drop in host timeline.
2. Can Geist import Battery or Kontakt files?
I don't think that is possible.

Peace,
Andy.

Hallo there,
1. After I slice a loop can I drag the sliced pattern (as midi) into my host? (most important)
Geist has pattern "drag&drop" so you could slice a sample
Geist makes a pattern representing the sliced file
than you can "drag&drop" the pattern to your DAW.
2. Can Geist import Battery or Kontakt files?
I don't know and i don't think so but this would be realy cool !
3. My principle need for Geist is the loop slicing, tried others but nothing seems to do it as elegantly (principally from seeing videos) as Geist
Elegance, like all synonyms for beauty, is pretty subjective..
But have a look for yourself and download the demo

Have fun.

1. Yes, but I don't like the fact that it currently doesn't map slice to notes 1:1 - it has a limited number of pads and map each pad to one slice.

If number of slices exceeds number of pads, the exported pattern includes some particular MIDI data (CC or similar) that allows the same note to trigger different slices.

This thing alone put me a bit down on Geist...

Andy is Correct, you can't directly import these. However with Battery I make Geist kits using the Samples as they're just wav files.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, really appreciated. The loop thing is key for me,

Mario - I'm with you, that does sound like a bit of a limiter (pad limit > CC),

Again thanks.

2. Can Geist import Battery or Kontakt files? NO!

So for me Geist shines as a kick@ss drum layering, drum shaping and break-chopping tool and I chop large chunks of audio in ableton....

Re the loop chopping, it's just to chop breaks, but as mentioned the 16 slice limit (with a workaround) is a bit of a bummer. What is everyone using that beats Geist for loop slicing, rearrangement and mangling etc?
