A friend of mine uses Dragon Speech software as she suffers from wrist problems. Now she wants to start playing with production. From what she was saying this Dragon software works well with software that has many functions available as Keyboard Shortcuts.

Do any KVR'rs use this software with Ableton / Cubase / Reaper etc.

Any nods in the right direction appreciatated.

D.

Hi there,

I use Dragon Naturally Speaking 11.5 all the time for dictating e-mails writing scripts and replying on forums etc. I've often thought about trying to use it to control Samplitude but never got round to it. I did a couple of quick tests after I saw your post and I could get it to respond but it was a bit random.

There is something called a Command Browser in DNS where you can create scripts and I have a feeling you would need to use that in order for it to control the DAW of your choice. But it would probably involve spending quite a lot of time creating custom commands. DNS controls things like Internet Explorer, Word etc with no problems so I don't see any reason why it can't control something more specific like a DAW.

A few years ago I had a you program called ViaVoice and I managed to get that to control Logic at the time but ViaVoice was discontinued and Dragon Naturally Speaking pretty much dominates the market nowadays anyway. The main thing about using voice commands to control anything, particularly music software would the need to have some kind of noise cancelling microphone or to wear headphones. Because any kind of noise coming from other sources will mess up the commands.

When I get time I will look into it a bit further and see if I can make any progress with controlling Samplitude.

Regards
Kraznet

I can't say for certain, but I have a feeling Garage Band and/or Logic might work well because Apple seems to have built some decent accessibility features into the OS as a whole.

Haven't tried it, but I imagine Renoise would work well with voice control.
The program is designed to allow controlling and using it without touching a mouse - using a keyboard and shortcuts.
Of course, you can use a mouse if you want.
I use a mouse for the graphic envelopes, but envelopes can also be entered in the pattern editor with a standard keyboard, which can be much faster and accurate at times.
It's a fantastic program all round,
and well priced Smile

Reaper menus and menu shortcuts can be customized so completely, I would guess (though it may be a chore) you could do nearly anything with speech control if you really wanted.

Fine tuning would still be required for many things, making voice commands redundant and the mouse fast and easy. But for calling up presets it would be awesome.

Thank you for all your responses. I have pointed her in the direction of Re-noise. Cheers

Cool, I'd love to know how it works out.
If she needs any assistance figuring out Renoise, feel free to get a hold of me, or tell her she's welcome to as well.
I work primarily with people with Cerebral Palsy, but also with others who have mobility challenges for one reason or another, and a passion of mine is to help them find ways to make music.
Used to facilitate a music making worksop for just that reason, and miss it dearly.
So I'd love to help if I can.
I'll PM you my email right now.

I think it works with the host's keyboard shortcuts.

hello everybody

Ok that's it you got me registred Love ,
it is exactly 01:48 here and i just had the tought to control live or FLstudio with dragon naturally speaking, i google it ,and the one forum that pops up is this one .
i am very interested in the process , am new to Dragon , but i guess it have a good learning curve .
even with head phones the thing will be very helpful , boost productivity and avoid wrist pains ( for an instrumentalist would be a blessing ) .
for using it with monitors or in a live situation it would be tricky guess, ( right choice of mic + a lot of tweaking i thing ) would be awesome if possible to process the sound before it gets to Dragon , it will offer a better quality control of the voice , imagine being able to Eq the voice into a narrow band and/or pass it through a Vocoder , in a way to unify all voices and anybody can be able to control it with the same configuration .
maybe i should go sleep cause am dreaming already Rolling Eyes
by the way @ allofdrab : what you do with making music production possible to people in such ways is just amazing , Hat off for you mate .
