I tried the demo of this recently, and tbh, I was indifferent, but then I don't think I fully understood how it works.

My understanding of "Multiband sidechaining" is that you can apply sidechain to 1 or 2 specific bands and the others will remain untouched (within reason)

Now I got it to duck, but it seemed to be just like any sidechain, the whole thing was ducking, even with the split frequency where I wanted it.

Is it more hype than fact or did I just not get it working right.

Problem is I cant get the demo again as the elicenser won't let me demo it twice f*****g dongle.

It definitely should be ducking the bands independently, so I'm guessing that it wasn't working right.

I was struggling to get it to trigger properly, I couldnt get it to sidechain from Midi, or Audio, only host, which wasnt really much good to me seeing as everything was more syncopated.

Guess I'll need to fix the elicenser to demo it again before I consider a purchase. :(

How does the routing for Cubase work , anyone know ?

I set up my kickdrum as a SEND into Sidechain 1 (VST3 version) of the MB Compressor, yet it didnt show up in Audio or Midi.

There is a Cubase routing example (Routing example: Cubase) in the manual here:

Just search for cubase when you open the pdf.

I'm sure you already know that there are a couple of good videos about the plugin on YouTube.

it seems you did something wrong. You see 2 rows of knobs, the upper is the lower band and on the bottom its the high band. You can setup the strength independently.

btw
I always recommend, using the MIDI trigger mode if possible
this gives you some advantages

- sounds identical to audio or host triggering
- you can use the midi notes length to sustain the ducking
- you can use the midi velocity to change the intense of the ducking
you can build sidechaining "ramps", for example in breaks. Quite important
in club music.
- you can use one midi track and send this to every sidechain instance in your
project as trigger
- the timing is absolutely 100%, every note is recognized perfectly.
Its not necessary to set up the input sensitivy knob

have fun!

Yeah seems I definately messed something up when trying it out. I'll try it again, if I can ever work out the elicenser and why it's being a pain in the arse.

I have midi controlling the drums, so I assume that would be a SEND MIDI to VMBSC and not an independant MIDI track ?

in most hosts you need a seperate midi track, which is assigned as output to the MBS

Post

Does that thing have a separate trigger input for each band?
I am not seeing that in the manual.

If VMBSC has a midi in for the trigger then I reckon it will work from a send from teh original drum track, which is encouraging.

I just need to get the demo up n running again.

I'm not sure about 2 separate triggers for each band, i've not read about that anywhere tbh.

For $140 dongled, and only two bands, I really think it should at least have one input per band...

no it does not have a seperate trigger for each band
If you can explain me the practical use for this (I really have no clue why someone would need this :) ), we can think about adding this in a future update.

Post

Well practicality isnt high on my list. :hihi:
It would be for more creative sonic uses, not just bass management.

Say a freq rich bassline going through might want kicks chained to the low end, and hihats chained to the high end, for example. Maybe even a thin sliver of mids chained to the snare? etc,
Im guessing this can all be done with multiple instances so its not as if it is impossible as is, but the 'multiband' implies that maybe it could all be done in one.

For sure its not a required feature, but for this to be the end-all multibanded sidechainer, I would almost assume more inputs, if not more bands.
Maybe I am just looking to far beyond the utilitarian use.

I love this plugin. Just saying. Very easy to use.

Just want to mention how quick and helpful Vengeance sound were in helping me get a working demo again, big thanks to them.
