I'd put it in the class of Blackheart and other budget tube amps, not bad but not on the level of higher-end H&K's. The H&K Puretone is a the best H&K I've ever used. Right I will probably give it a miss then unless I have alot of time and curiosity gets the better of me. Thanks for the heads up Hope speaking tomorrow my mouth will be sorted or at least abit better. All the best to all, Cheers Dean |

My next amp? The starbucks I'm brewing right now! Thanks mate, Its alot better today but not sorted. I think it must just be the wisdom tooth pushing and nothing more sinister but bloody hell did it hurt for four odd days solid and had a big lump on my neck/where the back of my right bottom jaw bone ends. I am still getting it checked but not as an emergency appointment H&K Puretone, Does it do silly amounts of gain? I will keep an eye out and try if I do see one Best to all Dean |

Nope, it's a vintage-style, power tube distortion amp. Aside from our mutual disdain for Rush (boy, do they suck |

I got pretty good results by putting a Behringer DI100 between my amp and cabinet, then running it's output into Recabinet. Even with the amp turned low enough for bedroom levels, the results were much, much better than anything I've gotten with amp software. Have you tried the Nebula cabinet impulses? People say it's better and more responsive. I think there are some that work with Nebula Free, as well. |

okay, well this is cool...when I bought my new amp the pentode/triode option was not listed as an option and I asked Jim Frenzel if it could be done. He said yes, no problem. Also when I first ordered the amp there was only one view for the pictures and that was the front, after my amp arrived I saw a picture of the back of the amp on the page and it had the pentode/triode switch on it (here's his pic)
It's not hard to figure out by zooming in on the serial number on the one on his page that it is indeed my amp (there's a pic of the back of my amp a page or two back if you want to look). I'm just going to go on believing that the idea for the pentode/triode option came from building my amp the way I wanted it. Perhaps it was because other people have asked for the same thing, but the timing and the fact it's my amp in his picture means my request had something to do with it. Maybe I helped a great amp even better BTW....this thing is amazing...have I said that lately? here's the link for the amp on his page http://www.frenzeltubeamps.net/page21.php ---- I never learned anything from being right Hink 2012 RIP Reason L. and Ian B Last edited by Hink on Wed Apr 18, 2012 10:47 pm; edited 1 time in total |

However, that seems like something I should check into. The thing is the response from recabinet is the best. Yeah, it sounds great and it's nice that the HP/LP is right there but it feels the best. I know it's software but I'm always looking for the best alternative. |

I haven't found it to be unstable but it's kludgy. Quote: The thing is the response from recabinet is the best. Yeah, it sounds great and it's nice that the HP/LP is right there but it feels the best. I know it's software but I'm always looking for the best alternative.
Cool! I only have Recabinet 2 so maybe 3 is improved in that sense. I'll be curious to hear your opinion of Nebula's response. |
